Summary:

The Research Associate III, Automation and Data Operations role operates within the Data Engineering and Automation teams as part of the Data Science department within the Technical Operations and Process Sciences (TOPS) division. This role will focus on leveraging laboratory automation and data/software engineering to help accelerate the development of transformative cancer therapies and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. The successful candidate will drive new hardware and software automation solutions to aid execution of laboratory experiments, collection and aggregation of data, and automation of data processing. The candidate will also partner with leadership to develop methods of collecting performance information and measuring ROI on laboratory automation projects. This role interacts heavily with Lab Scientists, Business Partners, Executive Leadership, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers across our Process Development, Quality, and IT teams.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Automation team to develop and manage digital and physical interfaces between various laboratory robotic systems and analytical instruments.
  • Be a primary interface between multiple electronic lab notebook vendors and in-house users
  • Develop cloud-based software and database solutions that can manage and process data from laboratory instruments and other in-house data sources
  • Work with laboratory staff to identify workflow challenges and implement software and hardware solutions
  • Provide periodic updates to project stakeholders, associated teams, and management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree + 5 years or MS and 2 years of experience in a physical science or technology field
  • Proficient in the use of at least one programming language (Python, R, C#, Java, etc) with a strong preference for python
  • The ability to write complex SELECT statements in SQL, including statements with multiple CTEs
  • Hands-on approach to solving technical issues
  • Effective communicator able to bridge the relationship between bench level scientists, automation, and information technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience or background knowledge in R&D of biologics or small molecule drug development
  • Experience administrating and interfacing with electronic lab notebook (ELN) systems such as Benchling and Dotmatics
  • Familiarity with databases (Ex. MySQL, MongoDB, SQL), and UI/UX design
  • Experience developing pipelines for data replication between heterogeneous data sources
  • Experience in programming and controls of commonly used laboratory automation platforms such as Tecan Fluent or Hamilton STAR ecosystems
