Job Description

How Is This Role Important to Our Work?

Innovative, collaborative, strategic actuarial leader needed for Medicare Advantage product line. Leader will be supported by small, dedicated team of associates and responsible for strategy development, pricing, forecasting, product development, product implementation, and rate filing for segment products. Develop relationships and partner with actuarial leaders and other departments including product, legal, marketing, finance, and network development to optimally manage product portfolio within the broader Medicare portfolio. Responsible for guiding and motivating the supporting actuarial team in business segment initiatives and professional development.

A Day in the Life:

  • Manage the Medicare Advantage product lifecycle, including strategy development, pricing, forecasting, product development, product implementation, Part C bid development and coordination with Part D bid development.
  • Lead small team handling product initiatives, with key focus on associates' professional development.
  • Research, analyze and interpret actuarial and statistical data and provide technical assistance to other departments estimating the impact and owning the resolution.
  • Design mathematical models in connection with other departments to predict impact of proposed changes.
  • Make suggestions to amend or develop products and processes to maintain product viability and financial soundness as a result of analyzing claims, revenue and/or other relevant data.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new products and system enhancements by providing data and recommendations to assist in evaluating the impact of the proposed benefit, system or process changes.
  • Responsible for regulatory review of new legislation and compliance with existing legislation related to segment.
  • Responsible for divisional representation on corporate projects and may have leadership roles on these teams.
  • Independently manage, which includes directing other staff, in the retrieval and analysis of data on multiple tasks or projects with little or no management involvement. This may include filling in for management when needed.
  • Act as a resource for members of the department/division on business issues and provides training and guidance of Actuarial Analysts or Associates.
  • Other accountabilities as assigned by management.

Nice to Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics, or related field.
  • Medicare related work experience
  • Staff or team lead management experience

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • 6 or more years of experience in statistical analysis or actuarial work. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
  • Proven experience in Medicare Advantage pricing with ability to certify rates.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or above.
  • Strong collaboration, project, time management, and delegation skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel, Work, PowerPoint skills.
  • Knowledge of data retrieval languages, preferably SQL and SAS.
