The mission of this role is to deliver data-driven actionable insights from advanced analytics that create high impact patient value.

The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for making exceptional business impact with the use of secondary data and insights development through advanced analytics methods, enabling an increased use of data and, where applicable, reducing the necessity for building primary data. The incumbent will be responsible for project managing development and implementation of advanced analytics/AI to ensure successful delivery.

You will also oversee the ongoing operations of advanced analytics solutions to ensure Advanced Analytics models continue to work and scale with additional demand and applications. You will serve as the subject matter expert for Advanced Analytics/AI capabilities in support of business needs.

For this role there are no direct reports.

What you’ll do

  • Leverage Advance Analytics/AI to generate routine and ad hoc actionable insights with maximal impact.
  • Have a deep understanding of the business and the associated business needs and be able to understand problems and translate them into analytical solutions and insights next.
  • You will support S&TS and Finance, and Insight 2 Impact R&D teams.
  • Analytics Leadership. Provide clear expertise for opportunities to leverage advanced analytics, especially where they are advantageous to reducing the need for primary data or have high marginal impact.
  • Deliver the most impactful data and analytics projects that: 1) address the most compelling business questions, and/or 2) identify new opportunities for patients and UCB through effective visual displays of quantitative and qualitative information.
  • Share expertise. Serve as a mentor and guide to more junior data scientists and translators in demonstrating the application of cutting-edge analytics, clear communication and presentation of insights and practical/pragmatic implementation of key recommendations.
  • Partnership & Collaboration. Be the key strategic partner for the S&TS, R&D and/or functional stakeholders and co-create plans and priorities for data and advanced analytics with them together with the relevant stakeholders. Ensure tight relationships and collaboration with IT, Data Office, and other Analytics teams using relevant data sources.
  • Drive the execution of regional and local data-driven insights research and data analytics plans and priorities.

Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience, and skills

  • Master/Doctor’s degree in quantitative area is preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience applying predictive modelling techniques such as ML, decision trees, ensemble learning, neural networks etc, and data transformation such as text mining, fuzzy matching, etc., is required
  • 5 to 10 years of experience developing program/project plans and leading programs/projects from initiation to implementation is required.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience with programming and application development using Python or R is preferred.
  • Thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry is a must.
  • Experience with R&D, and Clinical Operations is a strong plus.
  • Expertise in analysing a range of large, secondary transactional databases, unstructured data, or other computationally difficult challenges.
  • Mastering project management skills is a must.
  • You possess strong advanced analytic skills/experience, and you are a structured problem solver.
  • You must also be able to interpret model results and identify potential model errors (e.g., overfitting, model bias, correlation vs causation).
  • You have an agile mindset and love to test-and-learn.
  • You are a crisp communicator and can tailor your communication style to technical and non-technical audiences alike. This means you can build a storyline to communicate the analyses to business leaders of various backgrounds and expertise.
  • You have an intrapreneurial spirit and can create creative solutions to technical and organizational roadblocks that can immerge.
