The Payment Analytics team is seeking a strong Data Scientist to join us with exceptional problem solving skills with a passion for data insights and a relentless execution focus.

The Payment Analytics team is a group that aspires to be the one-stop analytics shop when it comes to PayPal’s payments processes and strategic merchants. Our team is part of the larger Global Analytics and Data Science organization, and we partner closely with Braintree Product to track, measure product performances and recommend optimizations to drive product backlog.

Job Description:

The Role:

We are looking for a passionate & dynamic Data Scientist who should be able to challenge the status quo, and drive data backed decision making leveraging the power of strategic partnerships. They will be responsible for analyzing Payment product performance and health, triaging the issue, and provide recommendation on the best course solution and optimization. They will work closely with many internal teams to ensure the Payment analytic needs are well addressed. The job requires the candidate to build and maintain close working relations with the various cross functional stakeholders.

About You: 

  • Strong SQL skills and visualization skills with a lot of attention to granular details in data 
  • Expertise in stitching together findings to convey coherent insights 
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to perform deep dive analyses on key business trends from multiple perspectives and package the insights into easily consumable presentations and documents 
  • Track Product Performance and pro-actively monitor KPIs & identify/close the gaps. 
  • Engage in problem solving with the product and various merchant facing teams to determine performance trends and root causes. 
  • Use A/B Testing, analytics, market research, usability studies, and competitive analysis to drive decision making. 
  • Support new product launches for merchants by ensuring constant monitoring is in place to track product performance. 
  • Partner with varies internal teams to ensure that the merchant’s analytic needs are well addressed. 
  • Create close relationships with stakeholders to anticipate & answer the questions that might be asked both by internal and external parties 

Required Skills 

  • At least 5 years of experience analyzing large, multi-dimensional data sets and synthesizing insights into actionable solutions
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in a quantitative field (such as Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or Engineering) or equivalent field experience 
  • Fluent in SQL and at least one scripting language such as Python or R, comfortable working with large, complex, and potentially messy datasets
  • Experience building and maintaining visualizations and reports in Looker is preferred 
  • Understanding of statistics (e.g. hypothesis testing, statistical inference, regression) and experience designing and evaluating complex experiments 
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to influence cross-functional teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Prior work experience in a product analytics space would be highly valued
  • A passion for problem-solving and comfort with ambiguity
