Jar of Sparks is a new first party studio with NetEase Games. Founded by veterans of the Halo and Grand Theft Auto franchises, Jar of Sparks aims to capture the creative spark that comes from small, passionate teams working closely together to create amazing gameplay experiences.

While we are headquartered in Redmond, Washington, we support full remote and hybrid development roles. We want the most talented teammates wherever they call home. We believe a diverse team with varied perspectives makes us a better studio and will help us make even better games.

Your Role

As a Principal AI Engineer focused on in-game artificial intelligence, you will play a critical role in the development of our project. Your primary responsibility will be to develop artificial intelligence systems that integrate with our game’s vision. You will collaborate closely with other departments, including game designers, artists, and producers. This role requires a deep understanding of artificial intelligence, strong communication skills, and a passion for creating exceptional gaming experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development of artificial intelligence systems in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Ensure developed systems are integrated successfully with teams.
  • Provide technical guidance to all teams and mentorship to engineers.
  • Define and refine the systems to improve performance, workflow, and modularity.
  • Work closely with content teams to understand their technical requirements and provide solutions to improve efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in game engine development with a focus on artificial intelligence systems.
  • C++ expert with solid programming fundamentals.
  • Proven track record of delivering technology that meets both creative and technical requirements.
  • Able to navigate complex issues with artists, designers and engineers.
  • Willingness to travel to the Seattle area as business needs dictate.

  • Experience leading teams successfully and with compassion.
  • A desire to learn through experimentation and collaboration.
  • A love of games and familiarity with the current and emerging trends in action games.
