Position Summary

Arch Insurance Company is a leading provider of specialty insurance products and services. We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Data and Analytics Lead to join our Travel, Accident and Health business unit to help develop and expand its platform to support existing and new business lines. In this critical role, you will be responsible for driving data and analytics initiatives, overseeing the design and implementation of scalable and efficient data solutions within a Microsoft SQL Server environment, and leveraging insights to support business strategies and decision-making.

* This position is a hybrid role at our Hunt, Valley, MD office. The ideal candidate must be able to report to the office 2-3 times per week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of data and analytics strategies to support operations and strategic objectives within a Microsoft SQL Server environment.
  • Manage small but growing Data and Analytics team.
  • Manage, monitor and ensure integrity of all business unit data feeds.
  • Design, implement and perform data control and reconciliation processes.
  • Ensure the quality of all data during its entire lifecycle.
  • Responsible for month-end financial reporting.
  • Responsible for integration with corporate Data Store.
  • Responsible for the business unit data warehouse, analytics cube, Power BI dashboards, and reporting including ETL processes, report design, development and testing.
  • Assist with software development and data migration initiatives.
  • Create ad hoc reports and queries as needed.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists, analysts, and other technology teams to understand business requirements and translate them into effective data and analytics solutions.
  • Kind of redundant to previous Assist Underwriting, Actuary, Sales, Claims, Customer Service and Marketing stakeholders in reporting and analytics initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on business unit data when integrating with corporate data systems.
  • Define and implement data architecture frameworks, standards, and best practices within the Microsoft SQL Server environment to ensure consistency, quality, and interoperability across data systems.
  • Design and optimize data integration, ingestion, and transformation processes using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Lead data and analytics projects, coordinating resources, managing timelines, and ensuring successful project delivery.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in data and analytics, specifically within the Microsoft SQL Server ecosystem, and proactively recommend innovative solutions to drive business value.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data management and analytics, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Strong expertise in data and analytics strategies, including data architecture, data modeling, and data integration within the Microsoft SQL Server environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, SQL development, and performance optimization.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for data integration and transformation.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) for multidimensional and tabular data modeling.
  • Extensive experience with data visualization and reporting tools, particularly Power BI, within the Microsoft SQL Server environment.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and data security principles and best practices within the Microsoft SQL Server environment.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services (e.g., Azure, AWS) and their integration with Microsoft SQL Server is a plus.
  • Knowledge of source code version control systems such as Git including branching/merging, resolving code conflicts, and 3-way and baseless merges.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Leadership experience and the ability to mentor and guide a team of data professionals.
