Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s OneTech organization is looking for a smart, passionate, and highly motivated Technologist to join our Digital Automation Engineering team who has a keen sense of ownership and strong engineering, automation mindset. As an Automation Engineer in the Digital Automation Engineer team, you will be responsible for building and implementing automation solutions that would serve TMNA infrastructure, application, and end-user services environments.

The primary responsibility of this role is to plan, build and implement digital automation solutions working in collaboration with SMEs across all ITx departments. The candidate will work across the ITx to deploy automation solutions in accordance with TMNA standards.

The position requires deep technical thinking, hands-on technical skills to develop and deploy automation solutions. We are looking for self-motivated individuals who are highly detailed oriented and take pride in their deliverables. Ability to work with technical SMEs and product owners to deploy overall automation solutions. Ability to learn and implement new solutions using Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI/ML), cloud, and other automation technologies.

Reporting to the Manager, the person in this role will support the Digital Platform Engineering department’s objective to automate our on-prem legacy infrastructure, application, and end-user services environments to modern, automated, software-driven self-services-based solutions.

What you’ll be doing 

  • Responsible for developing and implementing infrastructure automation solutions
  • Responsible for developing roadmaps, lifecycle management of automation solutions
  • Provide operational support excellence for all platform tools and infrastructure ensuring customer needs are met through self-service capabilities, RTOs and RPOs are defined and met, and N-1 patching/upgrades performed routinely with zero downtime to customers
  • Participate in architecture meetings and technical discussions with a focus on the technology stack, new tools, and technologies
  • Stay current with industry trends to learn new technologies
  • Support digital transformation enterprise-wide to improve their effectiveness and efficiency through Automation
  • Be the technical SME for the Digital Automation team that provides Infrastructure, Application delivery automation
  • Implement tools/platforms to support the rapid delivery of IT services in an automatic fashion
  • Engage in code development and reviews to maintain our coding standards
  • Meet with Technical SMEs to identify opportunities and improve overall efficiencies using automation solutions.
  • Design, Develop, Integrate, Deploy and Maintain infrastructure automation that eliminates or significantly reduces manual work, including auto-detection and auto-resolution of problems.
  • Provide input to coding standards and guidelines that create a sustainable automation framework

What you bring 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in automation using AI/ML technologies (configuration management, deployment automation, infrastructure orchestration, monitoring, and analytics).
  • Experience using programming languages and automation coding software like Python, Ansible, etc., - with the ability to lead through ambiguity while partnering across organizations
  • Experience using communication (verbal/written) and collaboration, time management skills, decision-making, and organizational abilities
  • Experience in researching the latest trends and proposing advanced tooling/solutions for infrastructure management and automation
  • Experience leveraging AWS/Azure/GCP Platform to deploy highly reliable and scalable cloud applications
  • Experience and knowledge of systems design; integration of computing, storage, and network technologies to deliver cohesive infrastructure solutions
  • Experience in writing functional and maintainable code
  • Experience with software development and automation tool chains (GitHub, Jenkins, shell scripting, GNU Make, Terraform, Packer, Ansible, Docker, Python, etc.)
  • Demonstrate the ability to think critically about problems, decipher user preferences versus hard requirements, and effectively use online and onsite resources to find an appropriate solution with little intervention.
  • Demonstrated experience in research data collection, analysis, and presentation
  • Experience working within a team in an agile work environment

Added bonus if you have 

  • Experience with an understanding of the latest tools, and technologies in the AI/ML space
  • Experience using Multicloud
  • Experience using GitHub with contribution and/or collaboration with open-source communities
  • Knowledge of other programming languages and frameworks
  • Experience with developing infrastructure automation using tools like PagerDuty, DataDog, AppNeta, Microsoft SCOM, Nagios, etc.,
