Do you want to combine and take your passion for data science, engineering, and architecture to the next level?

We are looking for a Lead Engineer to define and drive our Data Science Experience (DSX) and Enablement. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimising and scaling our data science and AI/ML development cycles and crafting a world-class developer experience for all data scientist across the LEGO group.

You can either be based in our London, UK or Billund, DK office and reporting into the Head of Data Science Engineering.

Core Responsibilities:

You will be working with various technical partners to define the key elements of a successful DSX and enablement strategy as well as working with data engineering and data platform teams to collaboratively translate your strategy into an implementation architecture. In addition, you will be:

  • Leading the development effort on enabling technologies, such as templates, AI/ML pipeline and CI/CD automation- and self-service capabilities in our Databricks / AWS ecosystem.
  • Serving as the main point of contact for data scientists and other lead engineers across data science product teams and help them to adopt new ways of working.
  • Inspiring your junior colleagues and actively helping them to grow as software engineers through technology and architecture workshops, code reviews, etc.

In our Data Science Products (DSP) organisation, we have 50+ data science and engineering colleagues distributed across our Denmark and UK offices. This team is responsible for incubating, developing, and rolling out a broad portfolio of data science, AI, and ML solutions across different business areas and for defining and driving data science and data engineering excellence.

As our new Lead Engineer, you will be splitting your time between technology strategy, communication among different departments and hands-on engineering at the intersection of data science, engineering and platform. Furthermore, you will have an opportunity to allocate some of your time to proof-of-concepts, greenfield and incubation projects outside the main scope of your work!

Do you have what it takes?

You are either a Software Engineer with hands-on experience in applied data science or a Data Scientist with a strong passion for engineering. You have few years relevant industry experience across multiple roles and a proven track record in designing and building data science and AI/ML applications using modern data processing, analytics, and machine learning frameworks. What distinguishes you is your passion for creating sustainable “flow” across data science and engineering teams and a deep understanding of its key technical enablers. Ideally, you are:

  • Proficient in Python 3 and/or Scala and are familiar with the core language ecosystem(s) and packages.
  • Experienced with R language, its usage modes and packaging and deployment mechanisms.
  • Experienced in test driven development and setting up CI/CD pipelines in either GitLab or GitHub.
  • Practical experience in ML model training and evaluation.
  • Willing to travel about two weeks per year (3-4 trips).
  • Prior experience working with Databricks and AWS would be an advantage but not a must.
