Machine Learning Software Engineer role at Porto, Portugal.

About the role

You will be part of a team of Data Scientists and Software Engineers, and help them translate ML prototypes into production-level software. Your responsibilities will include converting ML prototypes into clean, modular, and elegant code, writing unit and integration tests adapted to Machine Learning, deploying ML models in production (on-premise or in the cloud, depending on our client), and monitoring the performance of those models after deployment.

• Act as an ambassador of good engineering practices
• Help identify reusable tools and features across customer projects
• Create infrastructure and tooling to improve interactions with the model
• Define and develop our model validation and productionisation process
• Ensure the stability and maintainability of the codebase across the lifespan of the project
• Offer suggestions and insights in how to build better models and get them into production

About you

We are looking for someone with the right mindset and attitude. You don’t have to be an exact match for the specific technologies we use, but need a willingness to find, learn and use the right tool for the job.

• Previous experience in a hands-on machine learning role in industry (allowances made for exceptional candidates)
• Knowledge of a modern high-level language (ideally Python)
• Good knowledge of software engineering tools and best practices
• Experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks (PyTorch, Hugging Face, Numpy etc.)
• Broad understanding of machine learning techniques and how they can be used in a production environment
• Knowledge of cloud environments and development (ideally AWS)
• Good teamwork and communication skills
• An appreciation and enjoyment of the uncertainty that accompanies rapid project-based development
