Job Description

AIR is currently seeking a Sr. Mathematical Data Scientist to conduct both theoretical and applied research using advanced analytics. The candidate will work in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment to develop and deploy quick turn-around analytics solutions.

Our recent work include:

(1) Building, training, and rapid deployment of machine-learning and artificial intelligence (ML/AI) models for improving the operational efficiency, timeliness, accuracy, consistency, and integrity of federal and state programs;

(2) Developing mathematical, statistical, or simulation models to study complex systems and social policies through the introduction of stochastic processes; and

(3) Developing numerical and computational methods to solve applied and theoretical problems in the fields of microsimulation, predictive analytics of complex systems, pattern recognition, anomaly detection, system dynamics modeling, agent-based modeling, text analytics, and partial automation of complex human tasks.

Candidates hired for the position might initially start working remotely but will eventually have the option to work from one of our U.S. office - Columbia, MD, USA locations or continue to work remotely based in the U.S.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Assisting with AIR’s mathematical modeling activities;
  • Led theoretical development of AIR’s mathematical modeling activities;
  • Applying mathematical and statistical theory and methods to solve problems in a variety of fields.
  • Developing mathematical or statistical models of observed and theoretical phenomena to be used for analysis or computational simulation;
  • Designing projects that apply valid scientific techniques and utilize information obtained from baselines or historical data, in particular under the assumption of non-Euclidean topologies or metrics;
  • Translating physical processes into computational models;
  • Developing new, or extending existing algorithms for data analysis;
  • Processing large amounts of data for statistical modeling, or graphic analysis, using Python, within minimal computational requirements;
  • Developing software, algorithms, and applications to apply mathematics to data and build data-driven applications that translate data into computational intelligence;
  • Designing and implementing ML/AI initiatives for advanced analysis, including feature engineering, testing/training/validation data construction, fitting, testing and validation, for deployment in production or operational environments;
  • Developing non-standard ML models, such as those based on unstructured or non-Euclidian data;
