Job Description

Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Bioinformatics Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Laboratory of Immune System Biology (LISB) located in Bethesda, MD. This part-time position will be performed 20 hours per week.

Technical Requirements

  • Provide programming and troubleshooting support and dissemination of research data.
  • Perform computation on research data analysis.
  • Assist with staff on scientific programming and experimental design.
  • Provide statistical support/analysis on research data.
  • Use bioinformatic approaches, statistical methods and computer programs to collect, organize, and analyze data for optimal retrieval and presentation of results in a clear, concise manner.
  • Assist with setup of server to host the packages for automated installation through the application tool.
  • Perform computer coding skills and detailed knowledge of machine learning algorithms and associated software tools to extend in progress work on two software suites and their associated GUIs (RAPID and DeePlex).
  • Assist with analysis using the software in collaboration with members of LISB.
  • Assist in writing manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
  • Assist with custom software solutions to address a wide variety of laboratory needs.

Specific Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a science related field; Two (2) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Master’s degree o3 years of work experience.
  • Experienced and proficient in computer languages, including but not limited to R, Python, Perl, Java and UNIX/Linux.
  • Experienced and proficient with high-performance computing cluster and cloud computing.
  • Effective communication skills working in a team atmosphere.
  • Part-time: 20hr/wk (500 hours total).
  • Full remote/telework.
