Job Description

Axle is seeking a Data Scientist for the development and implementation of data analysis tools and methodologies to support informatics initiatives within the National Center for Translational Sciences (NCATS) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

Responsibilities:

  • Implement innovative data analysis methodologies and software tools into scientific platforms
  • Communicate with biologists at NCI and NCATS to understand their scientific problems and data analysis needs
  • Develop and improve custom analytic workflows and algorithms tailored to specific biological use cases
  • Learn and test various types of technologies and software
  • Collaborate with and present results to interdisciplinary teams consisting of bioinformaticians, software engineers, and subject matter experts
  • Track relevant modern technologies by reading and attending seminars

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Physical Sciences, or related field
  • Skilled at data science techniques such as machine/deep learning, statistics, and modeling
  • Skilled at data-oriented programming languages such as Python (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, Keras), R, and MATLAB, including notebook formats such as Jupyter
  • Strong data visualization skills
  • Motivated to explore novel solutions to address needs in disease data science
  • Ability to work independently on day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision
  • Familiar with Linux and Bash programming
  • Familiar with version control systems such as Git
  • Experience giving presentations

Advanced Qualifications:

  • PhD degree
  • High-performance computing experience
  • Familiar with biology
  • Familiar with scientific instrumentation, particularly for imaging
  • Familiar with cloud computing
  • Experience working with massive datasets
  • Publication experience?
