As a Director of Machine Learning Engineering, you will sit at the cutting-edge of machine learning and software engineering. You will be responsible for instilling best practices and fostering the growth and success of our talented engineers. You will join a team of experienced engineers and entrepreneurs bringing practical AI solutions to the market.

Here's what you'll be doing:

• Providing technical and non-technical leadership and direction to about 8-10 members of our engineering team, including career guidance, performance reviews, and regular one-on-one sessions
• Collaborating with the other Director of Engineering in creating new processes, implementing engineering methodologies, identifying best practices, brainstorming on fiscal year budgets, etc.
• Providing cultural stewardship, overall ideation, and assistance in scaling our engineering team as we grow from 15-50
• Taking an active role in technical risk management for a variety of projects
• Communicating technical decisions to the appropriate stakeholders, resolving blocking issues, and keeping the engineering team operating smoothly
• Assisting with resource planning and management, including hiring and staffing of projects
• Consulting with our Growth team to understand prospective client needs in order to accurately scope and successfully deliver solutions
• Interfacing with clients in some capacity, including but not limited to assisting in client meetings, helping manage client relationships, and creating project artifacts

What we're looking for:

• You’ll be embedded in a machine learning engineering team, so extensive hands-on professional experience building and deploying production ML solutions is a must
• You are an expert practitioner in the technologies the team builds. Typically we tackle a wide variety of natural language and computer vision applications (among others) using object-oriented code design, containerized deployments, cloud infrastructure, and common open-source machine learning libraries. We don’t expect you to know every tool and technique imaginable, but you should be able to assist your team members when they need help
• You’ve got some stories to tell about mentorship, management, and your hand in the growth of engineering teams that have built ML systems
• Culture means a lot to you. You are a steward of psychologically safe and team-first environments. You prioritize the responsible usage of AI and seek out perspectives that differ from your own
• Ideally, you’ll have experience working in early-stage companies as you’ve seen and led engineering teams through significant growth
• You’re an excellent communicator who is capable of conveying complex systems to technical and non-technical audiences
