Job Description

Machine Learning Scientists lead Unlearn’s work to develop state-of-the-art approaches for predicting and understanding disease progression, with the end goal of driving clinical trial times towards zero. ML Scientists come from a wide range of disciplines, and have honed their ML expertise through their previous experience conducting novel and impactful research at top academic and industrial labs. Additionally, ML Scientists work in interdisciplinary collaborations with applied data scientists, biostatisticians, and engineers to guide their experimental findings into products and services for the pharmaceutical industry. 

ML Scientists at Unlearn serve in a technical leadership capacity: while conducting their primary research work autonomously and at a high caliber, they also lead and mentor their junior colleagues, review and propose experiment plans, and lead communication and delivery of multi-person research projects in their area of investigation.

Responsibilities:

• Conducting both primary and applied research through software experimentation.
• Track the state-of-the-art in our fields of study to inform Unlearn’s technical development.
• Clearly communicating research findings to both internal and external stakeholders at a variety of levels.
• Development of intellectual property via contributions to external research articles & patent applications. 
• Represent Unlearn to the broader scientific community.
• Advising and mentoring colleagues on good research practice.
• Working across technical teams to resource and deliver ambitious research projects.

Minimum Requirements:

• A Ph.D. in computer science or engineering, physics, mathematics, or affiliated field. 
• 3+ years of experience in an industrial research or ML engineering capacity.
• Solid foundations in the fundamentals of software engineering.
• Fluency in the Python machine learning and data science ecosystem.

Preferred Requirements:

• Ph.D. or Postdoc in the field of computer science or machine learning.
• Demonstrated experience of leading deeply technical R&D projects.
• Record of high-impact research publications in ML and its applications in healthcare.
• Experience in distributed or high-performance computing.
