Job Description
Alethea Group is seeking a Vice President of Data Science to lead our Data Science team. We’re looking for an experienced executive to grow our team to the next level and lead a technical vision in partnership with our Analysis and Engineering teams that will scale our technology and enable Alethea Group’s customers to make better data-driven decisions. The team’s goal is to turn data from many sources into actionable insights that aid research into online disinformation. As data scientists, we lead Alethea Group’s efforts in creating models and tools that help identify instances of online disinformation and the actors behind them. In this role, you will manage the data science team and work with people across the company to design and productize methodologically-sound modeling techniques that aid in understanding the online disinformation threat. This position has high visibility within and will have a significant impact on the company. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Analysis.
Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborate with business leaders across Alethea Group to define and execute on a vision for data and analytics that will enable customers to make data-driven decisions.
- Design, build, and drive overall strategy and roadmap for the processes, systems and tools, and capabilities required to produce and maintain our core data assets.
- Drive the Data Science team’s delivery of a modern ML solution by developing technical strategy and designing and scaling data, models, and platform experiences.
- Continue to attract, lead, and mentor members of our high-performing team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and data analysts, with a dedicated focus on their professional development and growth.
- Set data standards and oversee stewardship, ensuring that all products and services have data standards built in from the start.
- Develop internal frameworks, methodologies, and best practices that help facilitate the modeling lifecycle.
- Collaborate with leadership to make reasonable trade-offs on staffing whilst prioritizing initiatives.
- Become a senior advisor to senior engineering and technical leaders on org-wide initiatives that are both technical and cultural in nature.
- Stay informed and educated on industry trends and how we can implement them into our product solutions.
- Deliver solutions to solve business specific problems mapped to use cases.
- Implement new statistical or other mathematical methodologies as needed for specific models or analysis.
About You:
- Masters or Ph.D. in a quantitative or technical field
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in advanced Data Science domains such as predictive modeling, statistical analysis, machine learning, text mining, geo-spatial modeling, time series forecasting, optimization
- Strong leadership capabilities with experience collaborating with and leading, mentoring, and engaging teams
- Extensive experience applying supervised/unsupervised modeling techniques to turn big data into actionable insights
- Extensive experience leading large-scale ML system design across an organization/division
- Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications
- Significant experience using SQL and Python, including important libraries (Tensorflow, PyTorch, Transformers, Scikit-learn, Pandas)
- Full stack experience in the modeling lifecycle including data collection, exploration, modeling, deployment, and monitoring
- Self-motivated and proactive, helping to identify challenges and provide solutions
- Strong communication and presentation skills to explain highly technical solutions to technical and non-technical audiences

- Salary and stock options are negotiated based on experience
