Job Description

Bechtel is seeking a Big Data Engineer to join our new Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) business. M&T focuses on delivering complex and world class technology projects that address growing customer and market demands in the semiconductor, electric vehicle, advanced materials, and data center sectors.

At the heart of M&T is the Digital Solutions team where we leverage big data platforms and technologies, intelligent integration, and advanced analytics to enable and empower data-driven decision making, planning, and execution throughout the project lifecycle—all at the speed and with the efficiency our tech-savvy customers demand. The Big Data Engineer will report to the Digital Solutions Lead and help build the foundational digital ecosystem of this new and rapidly growing business.

Job Responsibilities:

• Big data design and analysis, architecture development, data modeling, development, deployment, and operations of big data pipelines.
• Collaborate with a team of other data engineers, analysts, and business subject matter experts to process data and prepare data sources.
• Ingest, Process, and Model data from many heterogenous data sources to support the M&T business and projects.

Basic Qualifications:

• Level 1: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent degree and 3 years working experience.
• Level 2: Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent degree and 5 years working experience.
• In depth experience with a big data cloud platform such as AWS or Azure.
• Strong grasp of programming languages (Python, Scala, or equivalent) and a willingness to learn new ones.
• Experience writing database-heavy services or APIs.
• Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.
• Working knowledge of queueing, stream processing, and highly scalable data stores.
• Experience working with and supporting cross-functional teams.
• Strong understanding of structuring code for testability.
• Ability to travel to Reston Office, Client Offices, and Project Sites as needed to support successful client relationships and project execution.
