OUR VISION FOR DIRECTOR, DATA SCIENCE AT BD

As the head of data science, you will manage computer vision and signal processing teams, clinical informatics, algorithms, inference logic and analytics supporting economic/clinical claims, with potential to expand to other areas including physiological data.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are developing novel data-enabled products and solutions inside a medical consumable device business. Generating potentially billions of data points from interactions with clinicians and patients, our solutions provide both real-time feedback and long-term analytics to help prevent infections and medication errors, for example, which are significant challenges in healthcare. The Director, Data Science is a high-impact role in our product development and innovation programs. As a key technical leader, the Director will guide development of methods that we utilize for data analysis, algorithms, signal processing and computer vision in order to provide clinician guidance and drive significant business impact.

New Ventures is chartered with developing Digital Solutions and Connected Care products in Medication Delivery and Safety, across clinical care settings including Operating room, ICU, Medical-Surgical wards and at home. Some example products are Intelliport and digital vascular access management tools for simplifying clinical workflows, leveraging data, and providing actionable insight to improve patient outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Signal Processing: Deliver signal processing and machine learning algorithms for novel devices and sensors in clinical environments and use cases.
  • Experience developing signal processing methods and algorithms.
  • Experience with statistical pattern recognition such as linear models, multivariate analysis, predictive modeling, and stochastic models.
  • Work with the hardware and firmware teams for on-device implementation of algorithms
  • Experience with Python
  • Computer Vision: Object detection that involves identifying the presence, location, shape, color and type of one or more objects in a given image or video
  • Deep learning for object detection, classification and tracking
  • Familiarity with image / video based detection methods and common models: YOLO, efficientNet, R-CNN, FR-CNN and VGG family, etc.
  • General understanding of color spaces and image processing fundamentals.
  • Frameworks like Tensorflow, Keras, and PyTorch
  • Proficiency in Python and related like numpy, pandas, scikit-image, opencv, matplotlib, seaborn
  • Metrics used to evaluate computer vision classification: ROC curves, confusion matrices, etc.
  • Conducting data analysis and exploration to gain insights on large, unstructured data sets with numerous variables
  • Design, develop, and distribute Python tools for data cleaning, analysis, and visualization
  • Understanding of image formation and imaging basics in common CMOS cameras, imaging systems and photography
  • Insight creation: from physiological data and digital biomarkers. Examples include areas such as sleep staging, cardiovascular risk identification, prediction of adverse events like patient falls.
  • Work with Longitudinal and Population data (large, complex and diverse data sets); analyze digital biomarkers and clinical data
  • Deliver key insights for motivating product direction, build analysis tools and work closely with software engineers, product managers and clinicians to deliver user-facing products.
  • Bring analytical rigor, as well as machine learning and statistical methods to create models and inferences on both population and individual levels
  • Leverage the latest information from the scientific literature and evolving guidance from the clinical community 
  • Clinical Informatics: e.g., workflow improvements through user-facing tools and insights
  • Business Analytics: including Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR)

ABOUT YOU:

To be successful in this role, the preferred experience is the following:

  • Medical data, including patient data acquired from sensors or devices
  • Implementing large-scale data ecosystems including data management
  • Cloud-based as well as on-prem platforms
  • Data modeling, data science and strong mathematics inclination
  • Streaming analytics in real-time to provide insights, generating alerts or initiating workflow
  • Demonstrated track record of invention
  • Understanding of the competitive / alternate technology landscape
  • 12 years' experience as a technology leader in all phases of product development life cycle
  • Experience with multiple product platforms
  • MS or PhD degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, computer science, biomedical engineering, or similar) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, with proven track record to present complex ideas to multiple levels
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong facilitation and analytic skills with an open mind
