Duties and Responsibilities

The Director, Digital Data Engineering is responsible for leading and managing the Digital Data Transformation efforts from a technology and production execution perspective. The role is responsible for working with Digital Architect to design the target data architecture, modernizing, and optimizing ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) data ingestion, data streaming, pipelines and integrating Data Lakes, Digital Banking Systems, Data Warehouses, Customer, Account and Marketing Analytics Data. This role will develop engineering solutions to secure data and provide operational excellence, reliability, resiliency, and performance efficiency. This role will work with Digital and MarTech engineering, Enterprise Data and Client Insights, Data Platform, and other applications teams for evolving the data pipelines across First Republic Technology.

What you’ll do as Director, Digital Data Engineering:

• Collaborate with business partners on initiatives to determine data needs and Digital data road map
• Collaborate with FRB Enterprise data groups on enterprise strategy and tech road map
• Work alongside our team of technologists from FRB to design, create and deliver connected architecture and solutions
• Re-engineering the interaction of incoming and outgoing data flows between Digital Banking / Analytics / Engagement platforms, Data platforms, Data Warehouse, Data Lake as well as other reporting and batch process systems which consume data from Digital data
• Drive the data architecture and roadmap for eliminating non-strategic point to point connections and batch handoffs
• Define canonical data models for key entities and events related to Digital Customer, Account, Entitlement, Banking applications, and Marketing properties
• Gather, analyze, interpret the team's data requirements to develop complete solutions, including data modeling, ELT pipeline management, data flow operation model, data quality management and governance
• Design and develop ELT processes based on functional and non-functional requirements using resources in Snowflake, AWS, and Azure, such as AWS EMR, RDS, DMS (Database Migration Service), S3, Kinesis and EventBridge
• Support the team's research efforts, including large scale data exploration, cleaning, transformation, and feature creation
• Help solve complex and mission critical problems, internally and externally
• Work in a collaborative, trusting, thought-provoking environment-one that encourages diversity of thought and creative solutions that are in the best interests of FRB’s customers
• Lead multiple teams from development to deployment - recruit, retain, coach, and inspire a diverse, high performing team and culture
• Document work for the team and for broader communication

Qualifications

  Experience & Education

• Strong technical background
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent field or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years relevant Big Data, Data Flow and SQL/NoSQL design and development experience
• Leadership in growing team expertise to align with demand and business and technology direction; assess team capabilities, identify ways to provide and enhance value delivered
• The successful candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the ability to manage time effectively, coordinate multiple priorities, successfully resolve complex matters, easily understand processes/workflows, identify risks, and effectively tailor their communication (written/verbal) to their audience in a clear and concise manner
• Readiness to work independently and often autonomously in the management of teams and operational disciplines and develop strategic thinking and planning in work plan execution
