Job Description

As a member of the growing Insights Data Science team in Bain’s Advanced Analytics Group, you will:

• Collaborate closely with and influence business consulting staff and leaders as part of multi-disciplinary teams to assess opportunities and develop data driven solutions for Bain clients across a variety of sectors
• Work with consulting teams to understand business problems, translate them into data science projects and appropriately prioritize and execute
• Translate results into business insights using appropriate descriptive, exploratory and predictive modeling and hypothesis testing
• Share learnings and drive adoption of best demonstrated practices with your teammates in AAG about theoretical and technical developments in the rapidly evolving data science field, collaborate with the open source community, and work together to create a great working environment that attracts other great data scientists
• Keep abreast of new and current insights data science techniques and technologies
• Act as an ambassador and coach towards insights teams at our clients and partners to raise their capabilities and ensure that our work is successfully deployed

ABOUT YOU

• We are looking for someone who has:
• Advanced Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Math, Statistics, Econometrics, or Social Sciences
• 5+ years of experience in analytics
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain and discuss analytic approaches with colleagues and clients from other disciplines
• Interest in learning about business applications and business models, you will have the opportunity to work with world-leading practitioners in this area
• Ability to collaborate with people at all levels and with multi-office/region teams
• Understanding of probability distributions
• Deep statistical foundation and knowledge of statistical learning theory
• Understanding of Bayesian methods and probabilistic graphical models
• Experience with some of: Causal inference and latent variable models; Linear models and extensions, unsupervised dimensionality reduction and clustering methods and tree-based methods
• Proficiency in Python or R required
• Proficiency in SQL required
• Experience with common machine learning methods for descriptive and predictive applications
• Passion for staying abreast of advancements in ML that have direct impact on Insights e.g. Explainable AI
• Ability to explain and prioritize which, when and how ML methods are applied to drive insights over classical statistical methods
• Ability to guide junior data scientists on where to develop their capabilities to stay current and support Bain’s needs and ambitions
• Strong skills in communicating descriptive analytics using graphics/data visualization, including on slides
• Comfort with applying data and research to test business hypotheses and be comfortable with mixing statistical techniques and 80/20 heuristics
• Ability to work independently and juggle priorities to thrive in a fast paced environment, while also collaborating as part of a team in complex situations
• This position will be located in any of these locations – London, Berlin, Munich, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Zurich, Copenhagen
• Travel is required (likely 30%)
