Job Description

The Analytics team at Mimecast is looking for a smart, passionate, and highly motivated Data Science Intern in business analytics. Our Data Science interns should have a dense skill set in Statistics and are dedicated to solving some of the most analytically complex problems here at Mimecast. As an intern, you’ll be supporting the BI & Analytics team on in-depth data analysis and analytics for with a focus on using your machine learning skills in a practical setting. Potential projects include customer churn modeling, next likely purchase & whitespace analysis, customer cohort segmentation & clustering, and successful features driving product & trial conversion. As part of this program, you’ll be learning business processes that support data capture, applying models to answer questions, cleaning data to drive meaningful feature weighting and impact and presenting to stakeholders on key learnings to drive success. This is a great opportunity to gain real, hands-on experience with taking your data science skills and taking a problem from idea to implementation.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical experience, the ability to independently identify trends from big data, and be able to develop operational strategies based on findings. You will be an inquisitive learner with a passion for data and analytics who can communicate complicated algorithms and outcomes in a consumable manner, have a penchant for the application of ML and impacts on business and is comfortable working both in a collaborative team-based environment as well as self-guided exploration and data and outcomes. Requirements

You’ll need:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience with R, Python or other statistical modelling language
• Minimum of 2 years of experience writing SQL queries
• Self-starter & team player with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent quantitative skills – demonstrated proficiency with analyzing, summarizing, and presenting complex data in a clear and compelling manner
• Preferred prior internship or professional experience working in a data-intensive environment?
• Experience in leveraging a modern analytics stack using Snowflake, dbt and Tableau or related tools
• Strong business acumen – interest in understanding business issues and developing data solutions for business needs.
• Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, utilizing data to tell a story.
