What your days and weeks will include:

  • The ideal candidate in the role of Director, Data Analytics is a candidate who has a knack for seeing solutions in sprawling data sets and the business mindset to convert insights into strategic opportunities for our platform transformation team.
  • He/she will frequently interface with other organizations and will also work with all participating stakeholder groups and must exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The Data Analytics Manager will work closely with leaders across platform transformation team to support organization goals and build analytics that influences high-quality, data-driven decisions.
  • They will use advanced data modeling, predictive modeling and analytical techniques to interpret key findings from company data and leverage insights into influencing business outcomes.
  • They will apply their exhaustive knowledge of data analysis to solving real-world problems faced by our company and finding opportunities for improvement across multiple projects, teams and business units.
  • The Analytics Manager would work with the Enterprise Architects and other engineers to define strategy, build solutions, and build technology components for a state-of -the-art policy migration analytics ecosystem leveraging AWS cloud Infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop deep knowledge of core data domains and business processes and drive value from the intersection of different functional views of MassMutual Products in the process of Platform Transformation.
  • Lead cross-functional projects using advanced data modeling and analysis techniques to discover insights that will guide strategic decisions and uncover optimization opportunities.
  • Build, develop and maintain data models, reporting systems, data automation systems, dashboards and performance metrics support that support key business decisions.
  • Design and build technical processes to address business issues.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyze business functions and key operations and performance metrics.
  • Recruit, train, develop and supervise data analyst and engineers employees.
  • Ensure accuracy of data and deliverables of reporting employees with comprehensive policies and processes.
  • Manage and optimize processes for data intake, validation, mining and engineering as well as modeling, visualization and communication deliverables.
  • Examine, interpret and report results of analytical initiatives to stakeholders in leadership, technology, sales, marketing and product teams.
  • Oversee the data/report requests process: tracking requests submitted, prioritization, approval, etc.
  • Develop and implement quality controls and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organizational expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Anticipate future demands of initiatives related to people, technology, budget and business within your department and design/implement solutions to meet these needs.
  • Organize and drive successful completion of data insight initiatives through effective management of analyst and data employees and effective collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to stakeholders within and outside of the company.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related field
  • 10 years of experience with relevant technologies in data warehousing, reporting, and advanced analytics
  • 3+ years of experience in leading a team
  • 6+ years of experience as Data Analyst / Data Scientist / Data Engineer
  • Strong ability to plan and manage numerous processes, people and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and delegation skills.
  • Strong experience in transforming data into business and process insights. Experience working with and creating databases and dashboards using all relevant data to inform decisions.
  • Experience using analytics techniques to strategize, and contribute to company growth efforts, increasing revenue and other key business outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of ETL and ELT methodologies and tools – collecting data from multiple data systems on premises and cloud-based data sources; and strong SQL skills.
  • Understanding of and experience in using analytical concepts and statistical techniques: hypothesis development, designing tests/experiments, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and developing actionable recommendations for business units.
  • Learning Agility: Open to new ways of thinking and acquiring new skills to retain a competitive advantage.
  • Ability to create rich diagrams and visual presentations in support of technical delivery and strategy work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer science or engineering or a related field
  • Strong experience in programming languages such as Python
  • Advanced Data Processing experience using Apache Spark, Kafka, AWS Cloud Technologies, Web services (REST/Soap),
  • Knowledge in actuarial risk analysis modeling.
  • Good knowledge of Big data Tools (Cloud, MongoDB), and orchestration & scheduling tools
  • Strong experience with data reporting (MicroStrategy, Tableau) and data cataloging tools.
  • Experience with the full software development life cycle 

What success looks like:

  • Be highly collaborative, technically savvy, and responsible for defining and implementing Analytical framework and standards in Platform Transformation team at MassMutual 
  • Grow to be the go-to person for all of Data, Reporting, and Advanced Analytics needs for Platform Transformation team
  • Work with our Platform Development, Product, and Delivery teams and business stakeholders to build analytical frameworks that enables scale and efficiency for platform integration and policy migration
  • Innovate and implement efficient predictive models and other advanced analytics for successful application and product migration, and enable efficient business-decisioning capabilities.
  • Integrate MassMutual’s platform, systems, and business processes with internal and external book of record systems – ingest data from disparate sources, build data pipeline and enrich data, apply adequate data quality controls
  • Express resiliency and courage to persist through inevitable challenges
  • Display agility by showing willingness to be adaptive to changing priorities while maintaining delivery efficiency
