Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer a Principal Engineer to be part of our Cyber Security Big Data platform team. The team is continually advancing state-of-the-art methods to solve a wide range of real-world financial problems using the company's vast and unique datasets. The candidate must excel in working in a highly collaborative environment together with the business, technologists and control partners to deploy solutions into production. The candidate must also have a strong passion for big data and invest independent time towards learning, researching and experimenting with new innovations in the field. The candidate must have solid expertise in one of the Big Data cloud platforms with hands-on implementation experience and possess strong analytical thinking, a deep desire to learn and be highly motivated.

The role will be an individual contributor role working closely with Big Data technology leader and engineering team in providing architecture and design guidance.

Job Description

  • Ability to design big data solution components, including data analysis and design, Storage layout, data pipelines (stream and batch based), data transforms and integration, data quality checks, software deployments, configuration management, automated testing, maintenance, troubleshooting and analytic support
  • Design, plan, and develop programs to perform automated extract, transform and load data between data sources when working with large data sets (TBs+ range)
  • Understand relational and non-relational database design principles, including normalization, de-normalization, and ability to read and interpret source and target systems.
  • Support data science teams with building data pipelines, tools and infrastructure and other platform needs.
  • Ability to analyze new technologies, break down complex problems and provide appropriate solutions and recommendations.
  • Exercise system ownership, lead and direct the work of others where applicable.
  • Provide documentation of requirements in the form of architecture diagrams, data models, and source to target mappings, data dictionaries and detailed design documents.
  • Follow and improve development processes including but not limited to conducting peer/code reviews, aligning with organizational standards, ensuring code maintainability, following build processes, implementing unit tests, and following other industry standards.
  • Work with Operations group to design and implement maintenance routines, automated monitoring solutions, backup and disaster recovery strategy, and support production systems by providing timely fixes.
  • Demonstrates continuous learning, fosters collaborative work culture and mentors other team members to be more effective.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 7+ years of experience with Big Data or Hadoop tools such as Spark, Hive, Kafka and Map
  • 3+ years of configuration experience with Cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or MS Azure
  • 3+ years of ETL, data warehouse and data analytics delivery experience on internal or external cloud platforms
  • 5+ years of development experience with languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or R

Desired Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree or higher in computer science or finance
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Financial services industry experience
  • Agile experience
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience leading solution architecture projects
  • Big Data experience
  • 5+ years of Python experience
  • Experience with Spark, Hive and Kafka
  • Knowledge and understanding of Cloud computing, PaaS design principles and micro services and containers
  • 2+ years of experience in Java or Python NLP machine learning frameworks such DL4J or ND4J
