Job Description

database PowerShell Intel's Neuromorphic Computing Lab is seeking talented neuromorphic algorithm and software researchers to pioneer a new class of algorithms targeting Intel's neuromorphic processors. Our goal is to exploit neuromorphic and related non-von Neumann architectures to solve real-world problems with orders of magnitude gains versus the best known conventional solutions in applications ranging from cloud to edge based systems.

We are seeking candidates with expertise in a various algorithmic and application domains. Specific areas of interest to us are:

  • Data-efficient offline training of event-based neural networks
  • Continual online (few-shot) learning algorithms to train models sequentially from incremental data with minimal forgetting
  • Exploiting attention mechanisms to focus precious compute resources on the most salient factors during sensory processing or reasoning
  • Exploiting causality in temporal data streams to learn more efficient models with better out-of-domain generalization than traditional DNNs
  • Exploiting the efficiency of constraint-optimization algorithms on neuromorphic hardware for robotic perception/planning/control or general AI inference tasks
  • Development and optimization of core neuromorphic compiler routines to map event-based neural networks optimally to Intel's neuromorphic processors

As part of your internship, you will join a diverse international team of engineers/researchers. Within our team, your day to day work, may range from high level algorithm/application development, porting these algorithms to Intel's neuromorphic systems and comparing their performance to conventional solutions.

You also have the opportunity to contribute to Intel's recently open-sourced Lava software framework for neuromorphic computing or to publish your results in peer-reviewed journals.Your contributions in any of these areas will have a direct impact on growing the neuromorphic ecosystem and enabling breakthrough applications that demonstrate the value of the neuromorphic computing paradigm.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to submit a concise and less than 500 word motivation letter, describing how their interests and skills match the requirements of this job opening.

This is an internship position and compensation will be given accordingly.Qualifications

You must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your schoolwork and/or classes and/or research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The candidate must pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 1+ years of experience in developing machine learning algorithms and applications relating to the research areas outlined in the job description
  • 1+ years of experience in Python and/or C/C++ with the ability to design and write quality code

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with popular machine learning or other frameworks commonly used in data science.
  • Experience with neuromorphic hardware systems. In particular familiarity with constraints imposed by neuromorphic hardware on algorithm development.
  • Experience with robotics
  • Experience in collaborative software design and development (design methodologies, SCRUM, etc.).
  • Good understanding of neuromorphic software, algorithm and application ecosystem
  • Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals and mathematics
