This role will be working on our Poe product.

About the Team and Role:

We are looking for a talented Staff Backend Engineer to join the Creators team to help shape the future of Poe, our rapidly growing AI product. In this role, you'll work at the forefront of the AI ecosystem to empower bot creators and developers. You’ll build abstractions and tooling to accelerate bot onboarding, collaborate directly with leading LLM providers to integrate their latest advancements, and improve our external API to support a thriving developer ecosystem. This is a high-impact role with direct visibility into how creators build and scale on Poe.

As a staff engineer, you’ll drive feature planning and backend implementation, while contributing to a fast-paced, cross-functional product cycle. If you’re passionate about AI, excited by emerging technologies, and eager to work on a platform with global reach, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

• Drive projects from ideation to production by working closely with cross-functional teams (design, product, data science, QA, and engineering) and advise on product roadmap

• Be a champion for both user experience and for sustainable, scalable code practices

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers across the company

• Work with the engineering management team to develop new initiatives and improve existing processes

• Participate in on-call responsibilities to ensure Poe provides a reliable and high quality product

Minimum Requirements:

• Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's “coordination hours" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)

• 6+ years of experience working with large scale codebases and systems, particularly web applications

• 3+ years experience in Python or similar programming language

• Ability to reason about big-picture goals, and identify opportunities to derisk projects to maximize ROI

• Experience leading project teams in a consumer internet or technology company

• A passion for learning and always improving yourself and the team around you

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Passion for Poe and Quora's products and mission

• Passionate about API design, the developer ecosystem and overall developer experience

• Passion for code quality and designing elegant systems

There are many factors that will determine the starting pay, including but not limited to experience, location, education, and business needs.

• US candidates only: For US based applicants, the salary range is $183,647 - $267,615 USD + equity + benefits.

• Canada candidates only: For Canada based applicants, the salary range is $222,703 - $278,168 CAD + equity + benefits.
