Data Scientist (1–3 Years Experience)

Old Republic Professional (ORPRO) is seeking a Data Scientist to join our growing team. As a Data Scientist with 1–3 years of experience, you will play a key role in enhancing our data capabilities. You'll collaborate with a team of data professionals to analyze complex datasets, build insightful dashboards and reports, and support data-driven strategies that guide risk assessment and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Visualization

• Analyze large, complex datasets related to Director and Officers (D&O), Financial Institutions (FI), Employment Practices Liability (EPL), Fiduciary Liability, and other professional and transactional liability insurance products.
• Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in claims and policy data.
• Use Power BI and other data visualization tools to deliver actionable insights to stakeholders.

Data Preparation & Quality

• Clean, structure, and validate data from multiple internal and external sources to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Address missing data and outliers appropriately to maintain data integrity.
• Ensure data compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with underwriters, legal professionals, and other stakeholders to understand business needs.
• Translate business challenges into data-driven solutions and contribute to strategic initiatives.

Communication & Reporting

• Present analytical findings and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Document processes, methodologies, and results to support transparency, compliance, and future knowledge sharing.

Industry & Regulatory Awareness

• Stay current on insurance industry regulations, compliance standards, and emerging data trends.

Professional Development

• Pursue ongoing learning in data science and analytics.
• Actively seek out opportunities for skill enhancement and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in data analysis, modeling, or data engineering (experience in Financial Services preferred).
• Proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages.
• Solid understanding of SQL for querying and managing data.
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or other business intelligence tools (preferred).
• Strong problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Genuine interest in the insurance industry, particularly in policies and risk evaluation.
