BILL operates a lean and modern data stack on the cloud to enable analytics, product insights, and machine learning. We are seeking a highly technical, innovative, and energetic Director of Engineering to accelerate our innovation. This role is critical in shaping the future of our data infrastructure. You will drive strategic initiatives, partner with stakeholders to create timely value, foster a culture of engineering excellence, enable data-driven decision-making across the company, and be a strong technical voice for driving our AI journey at BILL.

Data Infrastructure:

• Develop and execute the strategic technical roadmap for the data platform
• Has designed and operated lakehouse, the supporting compute platforms, data products, eventing systems, and stream based solutions.
• Enable AI/ML workloads with a strong focus on agility and security.
• Dive deep into problems, including code in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala and infrastructure management practices like infrastructure as code.
• Deep expertise in big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Flink, Redshift, Trino, Iceberg, and similar on AWS
• Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and security policies.
• Experienced in instrumentation and analytics

Technical Leadership:

• Lead and mentor a team of data platform engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Collaboratively engage product, engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to unblock the team and dependent business initiatives through influence.
• Push the boundaries to raise the bar on what is possible with infectious energy and be a strong voice for the team.
• 7+ years in a leadership role, managing and scaling engineering, and 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in data infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Enthusiastic and clear communication and stakeholder management skills
• B.S. in Computer Science or related field

The estimated salary range for this role is noted below for our San Jose based role. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.

San Jose pay range

$236,800 - $296,000 USD
