About the Internship

Our team focuses on identifying and designing novel chemistries and materials for R&D and deployment in high-volume manufacturing, using Applied Materials tools across a range of logic and memory technologies. The goal is to accelerate experimental development cycles through advanced computational modeling.

As an intern, you will work on a high-impact project aimed at identifying new materials and material stacks with specific property targets. This role requires specialized expertise in developing, executing, and analyzing computational models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize chemistries and materials, focusing on thermal transport in bulk materials and interfaces
  • Evaluate machine-learned interatomic potentials (MLIPs) for thermal property prediction, including tuning for accuracy
  • Recommend atomic-scale structural or processing modifications to influence material properties
  • Provide critical input for higher-level process, feature, and reactor models
  • Formulate and test hypotheses to uncover root causes of observed material behaviors
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including experimentalists, modelers, and infrastructure engineers
  • Exercise sound judgment in selecting appropriate modeling methods based on scope and complexity
  • Validate models using experimental or real-world data
  • Communicate technical findings clearly and concisely
  • Advocate for modeling’s impact while transparently communicating its limitations
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in chemistry, materials science, or physics within your team

Compensation will be determined based on several factors including location, experience, and internal equity. In addition to salary, eligible candidates may participate in bonus or stock award programs.
