Responsibilities

A data engineer is a data professional who uses their expertise in data engineering and programming to build systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information for business analysts. They are responsible for developing and maintaining data processing software like databases. Data engineers construct datasets that are easy to analyze and support company requirements. They implement methods to improve data reliability and quality by combining raw information from different sources to create consistent and machine-readable formats. They also develop and test architectures that enable data extraction and transformation for predictive or prescriptive modeling.

The roles and responsibilities of a data engineer include:

  • Analysing raw data.
  • Developing and maintaining datasets.
  • Improving data quality and efficiency.
  • Conducting complex data analysis and reporting on results.
  • Preparing data for prescriptive and predictive modelling.
  • Building algorithms and prototypes.
  • Exploring ways to enhance data quality and reliability.
  • Identifying opportunities for data acquisition.
  • Developing analytical tools and programs.
  • Collaborating with data scientists and architects on several projects.

Desireable Experience:

  • 4+ years experience using major data technologies: Elastic, GCP Big Data
  • Experience of extracting data from major toolsets: Splunk, ArcSight, Qradar, etc.
