Job Description

We’re seeking a visionary Lead AI Engineer to join our Research Tooling team, working on AI-first solutions for our cohort and event builders, research workflows, and results analysis tools. This role goes beyond traditional engineering—it’s about innovating with agent-based AI workflows, building scalable systems, and integrating AI into real-world use cases that drive healthcare outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement agentic AI workflows tailored to Verantos’ research tooling needs, such as complex cohort definitions, event-building, and real-time results analysis
• Develop the next generation of Verantos’ cohort builder, integrating AI to optimize usability, query execution, and event-based workflows
• Collaborate closely with the research tooling team and product stakeholders to identify and solve key challenges in healthcare analytics.
• Build scalable, maintainable systems for asynchronous query execution and real-time results reporting, leveraging Snowflake and related technologies
• Drive innovation by exploring LLM-based agents and AI models that enhance user interaction, streamline workflows, and generate actionable insights
• Mentor team members, contribute to technical strategy, and act as a thought leader in applying AI within RWE platforms

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, with a focus on deep learning
• Proven experience designing and implementing agent-based AI systems or autonomous workflows (LLM-powered agents, task orchestration, etc.)
• Strong expertise in Python, FastAPI, and integrating AI models into backend services
• Familiarity with modern AI frameworks (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI API, Hugging Face) and vector databases for agent memory.
• A deep understanding of data pipelines, asynchronous task execution, and scalable architectures
• Experience working with complex datasets (e.g., healthcare data) and designing tools for data exploration, cohorting, or query execution
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) for model training and productization
• Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation in AI-driven tooling
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a focus on driving impactful outcomes

Desired Attributes

• Familiarity with RWE or healthcare datasets (e.g., OMOP, EHR)
• Experience with Snowflake, websocket-based real-time systems, and event-driven architectures
• Hands-on experience with cohort builder workflows or similar research tools
