Job Description

The Risk team protects Etsy from financial loss and builds buyer and seller trust by helping to ensure all users feel secure when transacting on our marketplace. We build ML-based capabilities that empower Etsy to manage risk at scale, on both the buyer and seller side of the marketplace. You’ll work closely with engineering and design partners to establish the product strategy that will advance ML for risk, ensure goals are met, and manage the constantly evolving environment of risk and fraud.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Own, define and refine a Machine Learning/AI driven product strategy that focuses on early detection of bad actors on both the buyer and seller side of the marketplace
  • Collaborate closely with the ML and Data organizations at Etsy to advance the Risk ML agenda, identify partnership opportunities, and ultimately deliver products that address new and novel fraud vectors.
  • Own various aspects of squad operations, from quarterly planning to sprint planning, ensuring we are focusing on the most relevant business and customer problems with the best solutions.
  • Integrate user research, market analysis, and customer feedback into product requirements to ensure products satisfy customer needs
  • Collaborate with other squad leads (engineering manager, designer and analytics) to promote healthy team operations and dynamics that drive strong business impact.
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • 7+ years of technical Product Management or comparable experience, particularly working on highly technical platforms
  • 3+ years experience working in Risk, Fraud, or other adversarial domains
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally to identify the most meaningful unmet customer and business needs, and building platforms and other solutions that effectively address them
  • Highly motivated to help the team work with urgency and creativity to build clarity, resolve blockers, and drive impact
  • Committed to learning and growing. You are curious, proactively give feedback to enable the development of others, and are receptive to the gift of feedback
