Job Description

Since launching last year, we’ve seen developers build remarkable products with the OpenAI API. As the product’s success has grown, so has the opportunity! We’re looking for a Product Manager to oversee an important area of the API and help advance what our customers are able to build when they access leading AI via a simple API. 

As an early hire on the product team, you’ll help shape the direction of the API and be directly responsible for a critical piece of the product. You’ll understand customer needs and work with the team to identify elegant solutions which balance usability, safety, and other requirements from a cross-functional team.

You’ll be responsible for: Overseeing product decisions for a critical area of the API -- from product strategy to prioritization, goal setting to sprint planning and execution. Developing a deep understanding of our customers’ problems, through rigorous data analysis and customer interviews, and bringing these insights back to the team. Orchestrating the work, and helping to navigate the difficult tradeoffs that arise when working on highly-technical problems with a cross-functional team. Collaborating with the product development team to shape the future of the API.

We’re looking for a blend of:

• An ability to sort through complex, conflicting information and identify what’s most important. 
• An ability to align people towards an objective and orchestrate complex projects.
• An ability to make good product decisions despite ambiguity and uncertainty. 
• Experience collaborating effectively with engineering, design, finance, legal, and other teams to deliver projects quickly that solve customers’ needs. 
• An eagerness to take a hands-on approach and do whatever it takes to make the product and team successful.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a talent for precise articulation of customer problems.
