Job Description

The Risk and Fraud team enables Etsy to grow sustainably by safeguarding the marketplace, creating fair and transparent risk experiences, and preventing financial loss at scale. You’ll take a multi-layered approach to understand the ways in which buyers and sellers introduce financial risk into our ecosystem, develop strategies and product experiences that balance the customer experience with the need to combat risk, and work with our engineering and enforcement teams to build solutions. You will also partner across Analytics, Design, Fulfillment, Communications, Compliance, Support, and other Product and Engineering teams.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director of Risk and Fraud. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Learn more details about our work modes and workplace safety policies here.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

You will protect Etsy from financial loss and build buyer trust by helping to ensure all users feel secure when transacting on our marketplace. Your team builds capabilities that empower Etsy to manage risk at scale. You will partner closely with business leaders to establish the overarching product vision and strategy, ensure goals are met, and manage the constantly evolving environment of risk and fraud.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Grow, lead, and empower a team of senior product managers, responsible for delivering end-to-end solutions that mitigate risk across a number of verticals including account security, seller risk, and checkout fraud
  • Drive roadmaps that enable automation and our “machine learning first” approach to detection
  • Represent Risk in initiatives led by other organizations, enabling the business to grow while ensuring we build appropriate product protections to maintain a trusted marketplace
  • Own and develop the product strategy and roadmap. Prioritize work thoughtfully and communicate commitments and updates to partners on an ongoing cadence
  • Lead the performance (and measurement) of the team’s product experiences, including impact to the business and our customers
  • Meet or exceed critical business metrics (KPIs) and consistent execution against quarterly/annual goals; communicate progress and impediments to senior leadership
  • Integrate user research, market analysis, and customer feedback into product requirements to ensure products satisfy customer needs
  • Regularly present to our company executives on roadmap progress, strategy and prioritization
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in product management and development. Domain expertise in risk, fraud, payments, or marketplaces a plus
  • Leading complex product initiatives, including ones that scale through machine learning and AI
  • Demonstrating strategic thought leadership and industry expertise, responsible for the continuous improvement of our function in meeting the growing complexity and business needs to support Etsy's long term goals
  • Creating performance indicators and analyses to drive decisions
  • Navigating ambiguity and sensitive environments, and making effective decisions with limited data points available
  • Harnessing excellent communication and presentation skills to articulate strategies to senior audiences and influence business outcomes
  • Partnering with a cross-functional leadership team to anticipate risks and develop long-term scalable and realistic solutions
  • Building teams that excel at collaboration and can provide end-to-end solutions and recommendations
  • Striking the right balance among risk reduction, customer experience, and business enablement
  • Effectively prioritizing and making appropriate tradeoffs between long term investments and short-term wins
