About the position

We are seeking an experienced research scientist to conduct bold, high-risk research to support our mission of commercially implementing scientific discoveries to radically improve people's lives. We are looking for people who can take ownership, pursue and clearly communicate a research agenda, including carrying out long-term projects independently or as part of a team. This multi-faceted position requires a deep understanding of cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, exceptional problem-solving and engineering skills, and experience in computational life sciences. In this position, you will:

  • Join one of Valence Labs' research units, carrying out ambitious research in the field of machine learning for drug discovery.
  • Lead new research projects at the intersection of natural language processing, generative AI, large language models and drug discovery, leveraging your broad expertise to design, evaluate and help deploy innovative and cutting-edge machine learning solutions.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers, both internally and externally, to identify unique challenges and opportunities for machine learning in drug discovery.
  • Work in a highly supportive multidisciplinary environment that offers academics intellectual freedom with industry resources and stability.
  • Present and communicate research results through presentations, blog posts, publications and conferences.

The successful candidate will possess most of the following qualities:

  • PhD with extensive academic and industrial research experience in a related technical field involving AI generation technologies (including large language model).
  • Proven track record of impactful machine learning research, including designing new models to advance the field of AI generation and developing new algorithms to improve the speed and efficiency of AI generation systems. AI, particularly in the areas of life sciences or drug discovery.
  • Strong technical and engineering skills, including the ability to rapidly develop prototypes of machine learning solutions.
  • Comfortable working transversally with multidisciplinary teams of researchers in dry and wet biology.
  • Experience supervising, leading or managing projects, including, 1) being the lead author of publications at peer-reviewed conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, or others) and/or specialized journals, 2) as a scientific advisor for the productization of large language model systems.

Useful :

  • Scientific knowledge in biology, chemistry or physics, as well as experience working in a multidisciplinary scientific environment.
