Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer (Data Backend) within the Ads group, you will be joining a team that is responsible for optimizing the delivery of Yelp-platform ads. In this role you will turn raw data into valuable signals by building elegant, scalable systems that use data warehouses, batch processing, and stream processing solutions.

What you'll do:

• Develop reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems that will power data-intensive applications such as relevance/targeting models, optimal pricing & allocation policies, and auction bidding strategies.
• Build & maintain backend infrastructure for machine learning, optimisation, experimentation, data analytics, or product feature use-cases.
• Work closely with software engineers, applied & data scientists, product managers, and other business stakeholders in mid-to-large cross-functional projects.
• Independently manage and lead software development projects.
• Mentor other engineers on both technical and non-technical topics.

What it takes to succeed:

• Expertise in Python.
• Passion for working with, and making sense of, large volumes of data.
• Proficiency with large-scale data processing and distributed systems (e.g. Apache Spark).
• Experience or an interest in developing infrastructure supporting data-intensive applications (e.g. ML-driven systems).
