Job Description

As the Director of Data Science (Member Analytics, Medicare) you will lead data science initiatives to optimize Aetna’s Medicare STARS program, leveraging data science and behavior change techniques in close partnership with the Medicare business and Quality colleagues. You will translate advanced data science capabilities into program- and domain-level improvements in Aetna’s Medicare STARS program.

You will work closely with senior leadership across Data Science, Data Engineering, Medicare, Quality, and Marketing. You will own the development and execution of all aspects of the Next-Best-Action for Medicare STARS portfolio strategy, partnering with business teams to grow a $35M impact portfolio to $60M+ within three years.

Lead data science initiatives to optimize Aetna’s Medicare STARS program, including program- and domain-level improvements

• Focus on improving member health and quality experience for ~3 million members, both within core Aetna medical product and leveraging assets across CVS’ family of companies
• Lead our embedded partnership with Medicare and Quality business organizations
• Develop and autonomously lead relationship with core clients, from peers up to VP-level, to align on portfolio of initiatives, provide regular updates, and solicit buy-in and feedback along execution
• Ability to translate business problems into analytical solutions, frame and break down problems for analytics team
• Manage team of 4-6+ Data scientists and support end-to-end execution roadmap
• Ability to structure data analysis, driving analytics insights and analytical solutions, and present recommendations to senior staff and internal clients and stakeholders

  Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant Data Science and business experience (including experience as an individual contributor in analytic role).
• 4+ years of people management experience.
• 3+ years of experience with strategy consulting or on strategy teams in large companies.

  Preferred Qualifications

• Technical foundation to lead through experience
• Strong grasp of experimental design, A/B Testing and advanced statistical analysis (including advanced academic and professional experience); program-level optimization, simulation, engineering, and system-thinking a plus
• Strong knowledge of advanced analytics tools and languages (proficient experience with Python, R, SQL)
• Structured approach to frame problems and closely partnering with business stakeholders
• Ability to communicate technical concepts and implications to business partners
• Ability to lead through ambiguity and complexity to take calculated risks to solve problems, forge new paths for growth, and achieve challenging goals. Demonstrated resilience and resourcefulness when faced with challenges and obstacles.
• Strong executive presence and communication skills: capable of influencing and driving collaboration at all levels within the organization. Proven ability to influence key stakeholders as well as drive meaningful change and innovation.

  Education

  Bachelor degree in quantitative field, or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience. Master's degree in quantitative field or MBA strongly preferred.
