Job Role

NBCU Global Legal Operations & Innovation is responsible for improving and maintaining the global legal function’s delivery of effective and efficient legal services. Our responsibilities include managing legal spend (including spend analytics), contract lifecycle management, knowledge management, legal technology, outside counsel management, professional learning and development, and increasing overall operational effectiveness. We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Analyst to join our team. You will collaborate with members of the Global Legal Operations & Innovation team on various data projects and initiatives.

This is an exciting and challenging role requiring you to use data to surface insights to analyze and improve Legal’s current and future operational projects, including making measurable recommendations at all levels. You will work closely with Global Legal Operations leadership, focusing on project operations of the legal department, including reporting and analysis. We’re looking for an exceptional, results-oriented individual who uniquely combines analytical insight with storytelling, someone who can code script to be able to build data reports but also can present the findings to leadership and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting, Data Analysis, and Visualization: Support regularly scheduled monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements and develop enhanced reports and analytics in areas of outside counsel legal spend and matter management, contract administration and efficiency, and legal resource allocation; create, update and maintain dashboards; and continually improve reporting. Recognize key trends and be able to demonstrate how they impact the overall direction of the function through visual and narrative summaries. Able to establish requirements from non-technical audiences and understand their needs.
  • Innovation: Develop expertise in relevant systems and processes in order to provide day-to-day analytics support, as well as to recommend enhancement efforts to or redirection of existing legal applications such as our document management system, knowledge management platform, e-billing tool (T360), Contract Lifecycle Management system (CLM), etc. Leverage existing O365 tools to develop simple solutions for teams to improve efficiency and information gathering.
  • Professional Development: Work with our Executive Sponsor and Committee Chairs to assist with the design and ongoing monitoring of metrics, capturing and measuring content engagement, evaluating return on investment against budget, effectiveness of legal communication channels, and overall monitoring of delivery of legal training modules to employees across the entire company
  • Operational Excellence: Support General Counsel’s efforts of continuous improvement through supporting special projects, identifying process improvements that realize cost or time savings, and simplifying existing processes through data analytics and storytelling of the data points captured, monitored and evaluated. Refine and record information gathering methods as a replicable model for data management practices across the legal function.

    You are inherently curious, data-driven, innovative, and can tell a riveting story. You know how to model trends from a variety of data sources and expertly present their interpretation. You can build front-end data visualizations that succinctly tell a story based on your data analysis. You are confident in presenting data guided conclusions to colleagues, peers and leadership, sharing your findings based on data and evidence. You are comfortable owning analysis and report requests, creating a management reporting tracker system to monitor requests and the solutions you have provided, adding value to our business.

    Building data flows, data mining, data reconciliation, and maintaining data storage to support front end-visualization and trend analysis are areas you have experience with. In this role, you’ll lead analysis and design thinking of processes that span multiple areas of the organization, enabling the Global Legal Operations & Innovation function to be successful.

    Skills & Competencies

  • Strong ability to explore and analyze datasets with tools (like Excel, the O365 suite, Power BI, Tableau, Photoshop), and other data visualization tools visualize data insights and communicate findings
  • Self-starter with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, effectively prioritizing multiple tasks
  • High attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively
  • Exceptional analytical skills, innovative ideas and solutions, and capacity to identify and eliminate redundant work efforts and inefficient processes

    Qualifications & Prior Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a quantitative field
  • Experience in the following fields are preferred: Economics, Finance, Statistics, Business Administration, Operations, Information Management
  • Excellent analytical skills and comfort with multiple data sets
  • Ability to problem solve and draw conclusions and make informed recommendations
  • Proficient with data retrieval techniques (writing SQL queries, working with APIs), for both on premise databases and cloud services
  • Experience of modelling structured and unstructured data
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel (e.g. pivot tables, charts, formulas), MS Word, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, and MS SharePoint (the O365 suite)
  • Experience with business analytics tools and reporting/dashboarding with a focus in report automation (Office 365, Tableau, BI, SQL etc.) preferred
  • Ability to present complex information in an accurate and persuasive manner to all levels of leadership
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including delivering presentations to report on your findings
