Software Engineer Intern

Company: Hitachi America, Ltd.

Division: Social Innovation Business (SIB)

Location: Remote work with up to 10% travel (as needed)

Status: Intern, full time

Duration: 6 months from June 2021 – December 2022 

Summary:

Hitachi Global Social Innovation Business (GSIB) is searching for a passionate Software Engineering intern who is comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment to assist with the development of new digital solutions that solve market-based problems.

GSIB is a division within Hitachi that is focused on delivering cutting edge, next-generation digital solutions to Hitachi customers, partners and ecosystems, with the goal of delivering economic, environmental and social value to society and improving the quality of life for people around the world. This position will play a role in developing and prototyping new solutions that solve real world problems.

Responsibilities:

• Review and categorize existing pods of code for potential utilization in upcoming projects and demos
• Create and present architecture and programing overviews to internal and external partner groups
• Solve complex problems through prototyping of new tools and validating resolution
• Support cloud-based initiatives of data storage, collection and mining
• Engage with GSIB stakeholders to source information and requirements
• Liaise with outside vendors and/or agencies as needed to support the work
• Manage a range of development projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications:

• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Experience / knowledge of coding web-based software using Python, Java, JavaScript, SQL, PHP, HTML, XML, or CSS required
• Demonstrated knowledge in cloud solutions like AWS, Azure or GCP preferred
• Experience with IoT, Edge Devices and other sensor-based solutions preferred
• Good quantitative analytical skills
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, critical thinking and problem-solving
• Ability to work independently as well as with a team
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Detail oriented and goal oriented with aptitude and enthusiasm for learning
