Job Description

The Business Intelligence Analyst role is an exciting opportunity for the driven Caterpillar professional, combining business knowledge with data and visualization capabilities to develop toolsets critical to Caterpillar’s business.

The Business Intelligence Analyst contributes to this development by leveraging his or her quantitative analysis, data management, and/or data visualization skills as an individual contributor to project teams tasked with solving business problems.

JOB PURPOSE:

Analyzes business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insights to analysts and decision makers. Identifies and interprets trends and patterns in datasets to locate influences. Creates specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs and required or available data elements. May participate in cross functional teams to address business issues. Prototypes solutions for displaying information based on business needs. Participates in 1-2 projects a year.

JOB DUTIES:

• Independent contributor to multi-person analytics teams
• Demonstrates knowledge and ability to handle basic issues independently
• Incumbents in this position will move to be a project leader on complex and highly visible projects
• Provide assistance to a project team or others in the work group while learning and assisting with projects.
• Support the Business Analyst lead to achieve the annual Vertical target (in $)
• Typically, decisions will impact routine, low risk issues that may affect the project team, suppliers or internal customers
• Locating and obtaining data from various internal and external sources
• Rapidly iterations of new ideas and debug issues
• Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of relevant experience
• Fields of study include computer science, business, mathematics, economics, statistics, management, engineering or in a related field
• Specialized training or certification in visualization

Top Candidates will have:

• Created 2+ visualization projects in Tableau or Power BI
• Working knowledge of one programming language
• Self-starter and driven, have a passion for graphic design and works well in team environment
• Strong attention to detail in order to spot inaccuracies in coding or data
• Knowledge of Microsoft Management studio, R, SQL, DevOps, Excel, Alteryx, Snowflake is a plus
