DESCRIPTION

As a Software System Test Engineer at Verily, you will use your strong technical background to define test strategies, organize testing processes, and optimize system level testing through creative and comprehensive test methods you bring to the table and test automation that you’ll write. You will be driving test programs and ultimately play a key role in ensuring that product quality keeps our users safe and delighted. You will use your knowledge of testing and testability to not only test our products at the system level, but also to influence better software design, drive product excellence adoption into engineering practice, activate bug prevention strategies, promote testability, improve accessibility, and protect the privacy and security of our users.

This role is part of the larger Health at Home effort at Verily, which is working to improve the way healthcare is delivered to patients and their loved ones. It brings together consumer electronics, advanced sensing, cloud services, and compelling mobile apps to create a better pediatric care journey for our users. You will be working with engineers, UX designers, product and program managers to ensure we are delivering a premium experience that helps caregivers track, manage, and gain insights into their infant’s everyday routines. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work real-time with product managers and engineering teams on test design and implementation, advocate for testability and product excellence.
  • Implement and strengthen automation test strategy for system level testing and drive mobile automation effort, champion quality and efficiency.
  • Automate Android and iOS mobile tests in Espresso and xCode using Kotlin and Swift, integrate automated tests into developers workflow and build test coverage metrics with engineering teams.
  • Communicate testing and product quality status to various levels of the organization. Drive communications and consistently deliver accurate product quality snapshots with automated and manual test metrics for stakeholders.
  • Perform ad hoc and exploratory testing to find defects before the product is in the hands of users. Follow up on defects and regressions to improve product quality and provide input on factors that influence product excellence (Focused Utility, Simple Design, Crafted Execution)
  • Oversee accessibility, material design, internationalization, and localization testing as needed.
  • Drive independent and reliable release acceptance, regression and functional test certification for the system under test.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 
  • 5+ years of software system test engineering experience with system level software testing specializing in Mobile testing [Android and iOS], Device BT/BLE connectivity testing [Sensors, webcams, etc] and client-server integration testing. 
  • 3+ years hands on experience in mobile automation frameworks (e.g. Espresso, EarlGrey, xCode, etc) using any programming language (e.g. Kotlin, Swift, Java, etc)
  • Demonstrated understanding of software system architecture and experience in independently creating strong automation focused test strategies integrated into the engineering, release and product development life cycles.
  • Experience building mobile automation frameworks and/or test infrastructure from scratch, writing and running test scripts in continuous integration manner in hermetic or non-hermetic environments, and summarizing results in the context of the system as a whole.
  • Experience in developing comprehensive test plans, building thorough end-to-end system functional test protocols, and delivering full system-level test execution reports for large multi-component software systems.
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills, with meticulous attention to detail that extends beyond written and verbal communication.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working as a software system test engineer on a safety-critical regulated product (i.e. med device).
  • Experience working in fast-paced startup environments and successfully working on multiple products simultaneously as test lead or the only test engineer on a complete software system.
  • Experience with Accessibility, API, Database and Performance testing.
  • Passionate about testing, improving healthcare, and the future of connected devices technology
