DESCRIPTION

This role is an opportunity to join a fast paced, impact driven team of automation designers that design, test and deploy complex automated systems. You will work independently or as project leader with other engineers, designers and manufacturing personnel to complete design projects. The ideal candidate for this role has extensive, hands-on experience in the design and development of Automated Systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design complex automated systems with a wide variety of electromechanical components, including servo systems, pneumatics, sensors, drive components, etc.
  • Perform a variety of engineering tasks, including the planning, designing and building of electro-mechanical products, manufacturing and assembly tooling, electrical enclosures and cable assemblies.
  • Test prototypes and released products to verify compliance to design specifications. Determine and establish specifications and standards. Investigate and resolve technical problems involving product performance in production equipment.
  • Determine and establish product performance through engineering calculations and layouts; use appropriate engineering tools such as, CAD, FMEA, DFA.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related area and minimum of 5 years experience designing and testing electro-mechanical, pneumatic and fluid systems.
  • Direct experience designing industrial or lab automated systems.
  • Experience with solid-modeling CAD software (SolidWorks is preferred) and using rapid prototyping tools and techniques. Demonstrated ability to rapidly design and iterate prototypes.
  • Working knowledge of robotics/automated systems, industrial pneumatics and sensors, biotech equipment and applicable standards is desirable.
  • Ability to work directly with vendors to specify, source and integrate components.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical ability, capable of understanding complex systems with multiple variables.
  • Candidate must be good team player and possess good organizational skills.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate technical ideas, both orally and written.
  • Occasional travel both foreign and domestic.
