Job Description

Verily, an Alphabet company, lives at the intersection of technology, data science and healthcare. Our mission is to make the world’s health data useful so that people enjoy longer and healthier lives.

Our team combines expertise in healthcare, data science and technology to improve the health and well-being of our communities. We are developing the infrastructure and solutions to harness the profusion of health information for good. Our data-driven solutions span three primary areas: research, care and innovation. Programs include Project Baseline - our research initiative to increase participation and evidence generation in clinical research; Onduo - our personalized virtual care platform, which includes connected tools, lifestyle coaching and clinical support; and Debug - our effort to reduce the threat of mosquito-borne diseases by combining machine learning with sterile insect technique. We’re also actively working to combat the spread of COVID-19 through new programs like Healthy at Work.

DESCRIPTION

The Sensors Infrastructure team (known internally as SensorSuite) aims to accelerate the transition to personalized care through the adoption of health sensors and wearables. The SensorSuite team provides microservices for device management and data collection to securely ingest and store time-series data from sensors in the field. We also provide tools for our Data Science and Product teams to activate these large datasets to produce digital biomarkers and other health insights.

As a Software Engineer on the SensorSuite team, you'll help build the tools and infrastructure to support hardware teams developing new sensors, product teams leveraging health-monitoring devices to deliver care, and data science efforts that extract insights from large datasets of time-series sensor data. You'll tackle problems with data consistency and availability, take on privacy and security issues, and build scalable infrastructure so that our partner teams can focus on what they do best.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to a secure and scalable data platform that turns raw signals from devices into digital biomarkers and useful health information.
  • Ensure data consistency and availability for data types from many different sensors and devices.
  • Create tools and APIs that allow partner teams to integrate their devices and data types into the SensorSuite ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with Hardware Engineers to get their data into SensorSuite, Data Scientists to derive health insights from raw signals, and Software Engineers to surface the data and insights in Verily's products.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience writing software in Java, Python, or Golang.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
