Central to the mission of the Streaming and Games Team, the Global Product and Design group is responsible for the global streaming platform that supports all the video products our fans love. We plan, design and build for connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles for a large footprint of leading products and brands (Max, HBO Max, discovery+, Food Network, CNN, Golf TV, MotorTrend, Eurosport, and many more) and together with our cross-functional collaborators we operate as one company with one mission to be the premier media and entertainment leader globally.

About the Team and Role

We are hiring a Principal AI/ML Product Leader to lead our ML efforts to reduce customer churn, increase retention, satisfaction and ROI. You will own the strategy, prioritization and buildout of ML models serving our Growth and Retention efforts for Max and other WBD Streaming products worldwide, helping us scale to >100m customers and be amongst the top 3 streaming companies. You will work closely with Data Science and ML Leads, and partner with Product Managers in Growth and Engagement teams and Business Owners in Marketing and Content Strategy. 

You will be part of a team of Product Leaders focused on Consumer Algorithms across Content Discovery, Experimentation, ML Platform, Retention and Growth. You will own your roadmap for your area and communicate on behalf of the area with stakeholders and executive leadership.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will have launched high-performance, scaled ML models serving different aspects of the consumer lifecycle, e.g. acquisition and churn reduction, in consumer services serving millions of customers. They would have an engineering / applied science background AND/OR have worked hand in hand with scientists to build and optimize complete ML-driven experiences. They are the owners of their org’s strategy, adept at connecting it to business goals and partner strategies, and contribute to company direction. They are a fluent communicator of strategy and direction at all levels, and experienced at setting up / managing program rhythms and mechanisms.

They exhibit strong judgment in making trade-offs between customer and business needs short and long term. They are a collaborator that makes your team and partners more productive, by sharing knowledge, and helping to tie-break key strategic, technical, business, and prioritization decisions. They provide mentoring to junior and senior PMs / TPMs / Engineers, both within and outside the org. 

Expectations

As a senior leader for ML at WBD, you will:

  • Partner with worldwide stakeholders to understand business and customer needs, and translate that into updates to our vision, strategy, and program goals and KPIs.
  • Build and maintain a portfolio of investments, balancing short and long term goals.
  • Act with autonomy navigating complex problems - when product strategy, roadmap, and technology approach is yet not defined.
  • Regularly engage stakeholders and external teams to communicate the status of various in-flight development, and anticipate the result of schedule changes to other teams.
  • Adept at building trust and exerting product influence across teams and business units.
  • Do outreach and evangelism to brands and other platform teams, maintaining and presenting the roadmap presentation for your area.
  • Build a culture, KPIs and audit processes for managing your team to exercise strategic thinking, move fast, and deliver consistently on both short and long-term initiatives.
  • Deliver complex product launches as measured by their impact to the business
  • During live-site escalations, provide leadership based on your understanding of customer use-cases and business needs.
  • Contribute to shaping the PM culture and be a role model for PMs across the company.

Skills / Experience

  • 10+ years of experience across Engineering / Product Management for a technology / software product, with day to day understanding of the technologies involved.
  • 8+ years of experience in Product Management.
  • 4+ years of experience leading a multi-level team of PMs.
  • Experience as a Software Engineer or Applied / Data Scientist highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills targeting execs and teams, including with docs like PRFAQs, strategy presentations.
  • Experience managing products with microservices architectures, best of breed ML / cloud platforms.
  • A BS degree in Computer Science or a Data Science related field is required. MS/PhD in CS or related data science discipline is preferred.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $167,020.00 - $310,180.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
