Wärtsilä Energy is seeking a seasoned Senior Data Engineer to pioneer our data architecture and infrastructure, steering data governance and engaging significantly in constructing data-centric products. This pivotal role is tailor-made for a data maestro adept in SQL, Python, boasting solid software development acumen, and capable of metamorphosing raw data into strategic assets.

This permanent position will be located in our Wärtsilä offices in Helsinki or Vaasa, Finland, with a hybrid remote-work possibility.

Key Responsibilities as a Senior Data Engineer:

• Lead the Wärtsilä Energy Business Data Product portfolio - Data products are serving the outcome-based services, power plant new build and energy storage business goals and will be used by Autonomous plant, Energy system management and optimisation
• With the Wärtsilä Data community, build a new data-based system - be one of the leaders of the change
• Architect, design, and implement robust data pipelines, ensuring accuracy and performance to funnel data efficiently across systems
• Spearheaded the establishment and refinement of our data governance model to ensure data throughout the organisation is accurate, available, and secure
• Play a pivotal role in building and enhancing data products, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure business objectives are met
• Dive into data engineering tasks, optimising data structures, improving data quality, and extracting actionable insights to propel our business forward
• Over the long term, transition into machine learning projects, employing your expertise to augment our data science efforts
• Lead the design and implementation of scalable data models, enforcing data logic and ensuring the system's integrity
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data needs, delivering high-quality data solutions while fostering a data-driven culture within the organisation
• Tight collaboration with Wärtsilä IM, who is providing the data infrastructure. Your role is to define what are the Energy Business unit needs for the data

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets
• Solid experience and knowledge of database technologies, especially SQL
• Proficiency in Python and software development best practices
• Strong experience in architecting and implementing data solutions, with a knack for crafting scalable data models and enforcing data logic
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and a willingness to delve deeper into ML projects
• Demonstrated experience in defining and driving data governance initiatives
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms to varied audiences
• A proactive problem-solver and team player eager to drive change and foster innovation in our data landscape
