Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with Mobile Development on Android
  • Experience coding in Java.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or technical related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with building and releasing APIs and building and optimizing mobile apps, in Java and Kotlin.
  • Experience working with apps using Android camera APIs.
  • Experience working the Android AOSP frameworks, NDK, SDK, and libraries.
  • Experience designing internal frameworks in Java.
  • Experience applying computer vision algorithms or design and implementation.

CameraX strives to be a modern API that's easy to use and works reliably across different devices. As a Software Technical Lead, you will design new high-level APIs for Android's Camera system using Java and Kotlin. Through designing and architecting core modules and systems, you will create new ways to deploy imaging effects, such as visual-based machine learning, recognition, image enhancement, and more. As this is a growing project, you will have ample opportunity to help set direction, own and design large modules, and work alongside and coordinate with other engineers and teams to see projects through to reach user's hands.

Responsibilities

  • Create a camera library and API allowing developers to easily use the Android Camera system to create amazing new experiences by designing a new software layer.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to get technologies into the hands of 1B+ Google users, and help ensure a consistent high quality experience across the Android device ecosystem.
  • Design and implement core software, create new APIs leveraging newer language features for clean expression, and find ways to integrate and release new camera based imaging effects and features to the developer community.
  • Set direction, own, and design large modules and work alongside and coordinate with teams to see projects through to reach user's hands.
