We are currently seeking a Database Engineer (Software Engineer II). This position is located in Columbus, Ohio. Analytics supports government, academic and private industry clients in the areas of knowledge management of systems related to life sciences research, chemical and material science research, and healthcare. Someone in this role is expected to:

  • Solving technical problems using computer science and systems development approaches in areas that require mathematical and/or statistical methods and knowledge
  • Communicating on a regular basis with project leaders and team members, including mathematicians, computer scientists, statisticians, and engineers
  • Proactively managing expectations and meeting deadlines in a fast moving, agile software development environment
  • Conducting and participating in assigned projects with minimum of supervision and within time and budget constraints
  • Continued job performance improvement through on-the-job training and outside study
  • Thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment solving problems in a variety of application areas
  • Minimal domestic travel


  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Information Science, Computer Engineering, Math, Statistics, Data Science; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience modern relational database engines such as SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
  • Demonstrated competency in object-oriented programming with Java/JavaEE
  • Working with various data types such as XML, HTML, and JSON
  • Experience with documenting the data management life cycle
  • Experience using version control software (e.g., Git, Subversion, Mercurial, etc.)
  • Experience participating in requirements gathering process, providing user documentation, and writing clear, concise comments within programs
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet competing deadlines successfully
  • Applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person, as defined by U.S. export control laws. 
  • Will require Public Trust clearance.


  • Experience with developing, testing, documenting, and maintaining computer code for data driven projects
  • Demonstrated competency in object-oriented programming with Python, SAS, R, C, C#, or C++
  • Experience with web development technologies and accompanying frameworks and libraries (e.g., jQuery, Bootstrap, etc.)
  • Experience with additional JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue)
