Allstate is looking for a Sr. Data Scientist – Pricing Sophistication with P&C insurance pricing experience from a data science or actuarial perspective to help drive loss cost and pricing solutions for Allstate Business Insurance. In this role you will help further our understanding of how customer characteristics, vehicle characteristics, driving behaviors, and geography relate to risk propensity. You’ll be responsible for providing thought leadership within the Allstate Business Insurance data science team and build model-driven insights to deliver profitable growth and provide business-enabling data science solutions. We are looking for someone with loss modeling experience to deliver strong business results. In this role you will be responsible for contributing to a wide range of projects for Allstate Business Insurance that will advance Allstate’s competitive advantage. You will have broad influence on peers, the broader D3 team, and the business. This signal intelligence would advance pricing sophistication and reimagine commercial underwriting. Job Description

  • Uses best practices and complex statistical and machine learning techniques to build models that address business needs and to improve the accuracy of our data and data-driven decisions.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and communicates appropriateness of modeling techniques and results to team, leadership, and stakeholders to ensure these are well understood and incorporated into business processes. Develops and executes communication strategy, keeping stakeholders informed and finding opportunities to influence the direction of work.
  • Collaborates with the team and works with data on complex business problems in order to increase the effectiveness of business decisions and improve business results through designing, building, and partnering to implement machine learning/predictive models. Understands the business’ problems to identify the optimal modeling approach.
  • Identifies languages and tools that can bring efficiencies or needed techniques to the team.
  • Has a business-focused mindset and is eager to learn about the business unit and products that our work supports

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated analytic agility and ability to quickly learn and switch topics
  • Experience and Education: 5 or more years of experience in using statistical modeling and/or machine learning experience with Master’s or PhD
  • P&C pricing experience using actuarial or data science techniques a strong plus. CAS designations desirable.
  • Telematics experience a strong plus.
  • Experience in managing and manipulating large, complex datasets and ability to analyze and interpret complex concepts
  • Ability to provide written and oral interpretation of highly specialized terms and data, and ability to present this data to others with different levels of expertise 
  • Preferred insurance pricing experience
  • Proven ability to achieve results by coding and developing complex prototypes in languages such as R, Spark, Python, SQL, Java
  • Incorporates complex techniques across many disciplines – including mathematics/statistics, computer programming, data engineering and ETL, software development, and high-performance computing

Compensation Data

Salary Range $95-150K. Target bonus eligible. Offer will be commensurate with experience and could be meaningfully higher than the minimum.
