Job Description

In this role you will:

• Design, assess, implement, and oversee cutting-edge algorithms to optimize processes and uncover insights
• Utilize software engineering to create efficient, scalable solutions for deployment in critical production environments
• Build and deploy state-of-the-art computer vision, natural language processing and other machine learning technologies to Northvolt’s ecosystem
• Support ML Scientists to scale prototype ML models to a production scale
• Maintain and support production ML pipelines
• Stay up to date with the latest machine learning research, sharing your knowledge and expertise
• Employ a data-driven approach to tackle unique and hard problems
• Collaborate x-functionally with Cell Design, Materials Development and Data Engineering teams
• Develop techniques to fuse and leverage simulated and experimental battery performance datasets

Skills & Requirements

We believe you have:

• 5+ years of industry experience building and deploying scalable Machine Learning technologies
• Strong software engineering background: demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and modular code, with a deep understanding of software design patterns and principles
• Deep knowledge of machine learning pipelines, from data processing to training to performance analysis and scalability
• Experience working on machine learning projects, including training, tuning and deployment of models
• Comfortable with the Python scientific stack and deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Experience with data & model versioning, handling large datasets and working with containerization and orchestration of applications
• Experience training and deploying ML models using AWS or Google Cloud
• Strong communication skills, specifically with a diverse audience

Bonus points for:

• General understanding of Li-ion battery modeling, and cell design parameters
• Knowledge in detailed battery modeling and electrochemistry
• Experience with data-scarce ML techniques (e.g.: Self-Supervised Learning, Contrastive Learning, Knowledge Distillation, Transfer Learning, etc.)
• Manufacturing Data Analysis (factories, control systems) experience
• Ability to make sense of data from disparate sources from a large diversity of sensors (optical, motion telemetry, physical, and simulation)
• Strong skills in mathematical modeling of dynamical systems and distributed parameter systems
