ABOUT THE ROLE 

As a Junior Technical Quality Specialist at HyperionDev, you will play an integral part in upholding the quality standards within the Education Delivery Department. This includes code reviews, group sessions, 1:1 mentor sessions or any other forms of delivery. As a technical quality specialist, you will also be involved in developing and improving quality processes for the delivery of our tech education products.

A core part of the role will also be helping to ensure that our delivery is in alignment with regulatory bodies in the countries that they are being delivered in e.g. Ofsted in the UK. HyperionDev is expanding its international footprint and therefore the development of strategies to ensure compliance with each country's standards is crucial.

You will need to be able to learn quickly and stay abreast of the latest developments within tech as you will be required to adjust to new HyperionDev offerings and help assure the quality of these offerings.

As a Technical Quality Specialist, it is important that you understand how students learn to code and what the most effective approaches are to training students to learn to code.

Good communication skills will be essential as you work and collaborate with various teams in the company.

To excel in this role, you should be agile and have a passion for tech education. You will also need to have people skills and the enthusiasm and capacity to upskill as the team scales.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support with onboarding and training of Coding Mentors and Programming Lecturers.
  • Conducting technical assessments for the hiring of technical roles.
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation and maintenance of the upskilling schedule with mentors' upskilling requirements to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Conducting metareviews (quality inspections) of code reviews and mentor sessions (both individualised and group sessions).
  • Contribute to the standardisation and academic integrity of the mentorship function. This may include contributing to the plagiarism policy and operations, programming style guides and rubrics.
  • Review support given on support platforms such as Zendesk as part of mentors' quality review.
  • Flag any underperformance identified during quality inspection processes with management and assist with intervention exercises and investigations.
  • Identify the training needs of Coding Mentors and implement/recommend the training to fill these gaps in collaboration with management.
  • Analysis and reporting on quality-related matters and patterns, and sharing andragogical and technical insights with management.
  • Completing code reviews as a temporary backup only when additional capacity is needed.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum

  • Possesses a bootcamp/diploma/degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, full stack development or data science or at least 1 year of programming-related experience
  • Excellent eye for detail and commitment to programming standards, academic integrity and technical quality processes
  • Confident programming in at least one statically typed programming language and one dynamically typed programming language.
  • Self-starter who can drive projects forward with minimal supervision
  • Can independently learn any technology stack or concept.
  • An interest in gaining specialist experience in computing and andragogy as well as advancing the future of developer education 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills especially when giving constructive feedback.
  • Willingness to solve unfamiliar problems and learn from them.
  • Ethical and maintains integrity and honesty with respect to performance
  • Confident presenting to a large group of people.

Preferred 

  • 1+ years of experience that includes code review and developer education.
  • Experience presenting to a large group of people for the purpose of training
  • Formal project management and/or operations management training or experience
  • Experience supporting recruitment efforts and disciplinary processes
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance with respect to the education sector
