How will you make an impact?

Join us, an enterprising team of R&D scientists providing bioinformatic insight into new areas of genomic research. You will join a highly regarded team within Thermo Fisher Scientific and play a key role in evolving new product concepts into applications for customers across the globe.

What will you do?

  • Discover new ways of gathering and combining 'omic data into knowledge of disease and biology.
  • Provide bioinformatic and statistical consultation with R&D scientists to design, analyze, manage, and interpret all types of biological data.
  • Develop and present timely results of your work.
  • Seek out and promote new algorithmic and statistical methods.
  • Provide technical expertise for users of our products.
  • Document R&D activities and work within a core team environment.
  • Devise novel approaches to the generation of high quality, reliable and quantitative data.
  • Foster interdisciplinary teams and Interface with various departments throughout the business.
  • Participate in development of intellectual property and patent applications.
  • Interact with customers.
  • Gain insight into latest research methods and concepts.
  • Participate in process and operation improvement opportunities.
  • Comply with company quality management systems, policies and procedures.
  • Provide mentorship/training, when applicable.

You will often be self-directed relying on your experience and training but functioning within a highly collaborative team setting. You will provide leadership especially as it relates to statistical and biocomputational requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills will enable you to interact with the research and development team and find the right solution for their diverse scientific computing needs. You will be encouraged to perform professionally with the ability to provide accurate timelines to the completion of your work. You will also be encouraged to grow and strengthen strong connections to the greater research community outside the organization.

How will you get here?

Education

Preferred PhD in Bioinformatics, biostatistics, statistics or related field with 4 - 6 years related experience.

Minimum requirement of BS (bioinformatics, biostatistics, statistics or related field) with 8-10 years of related experience or MS (bioinformatics, biostatistics, statistics or related field) with 6 years of experience

Experience

  • We are looking for expertise in the areas of genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, statistics, computational biology, mathematics or a related field.
  • Preferred experience with any ‘omics data including sequencing, microarrays, genotyping, gene expression, alternative splicing, methylation, ATAC or histone modifications.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Advanced experience with R, or MATLAB
  • Programming skills in a scripting language such as Perl or Python
  • Candidate should be able to demonstrate experience with handling large data sets
  • Be proficient with both UNIX (Linux) and Windows environments.
