Job Description

The Data Engineer is a role to help facilitate and enable the Business to make data and insight driven decisions. This position will work primarily on the multi-year UKG1 Mileposts, platform maintenance for the Google Cloud Platform Enterprise Data Warehouse (GCP EDW). The Data Engineer will create innovative data products that deliver insights to business user and drive action, bringing DevOps, and engineering practices to the analytics CoE, support advanced analytics developments and workflows, and drive the build out of our data fabric / data platform that connects and stores the data across the enterprise. The Data Engineer will be an expert in GCP BigQuery.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on the multi-year/milepost UKG1 integration processes for the Enterprise Data Warehouse
  • Work with data / information architects to drive enterprise taxonomy and ontology development to connect disparate data sources across the enterprise.
  • Develop new connections and ingestion pipelines from new data source into the data fabric / data platform.
  • Wrangle and integrate data from disparate systems to allow data analysts and scientists leverage for end-to-end data and information.
  • Develop, maintain, and support the GCP EDW in BigQuery.
  • Maintain and support the data platform that allows data analysts and scientists leverage for end-to-end data and information.
  • Develop data analytics tooling for supporting analytics workflows and data science workflows to support the artificial intelligence lifecycles.
  • Implement software/data engineering and DevOps standards and best practices for the data analytics teams including code modularization, versioning, testing, automation/CICD workflows, code reviews and optimization of code.
  • Instrument data products to enable impact quantification.
  • Create intelligent applications that leverage machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Deliver data and insights in a manner that allows business users to understand, interpret and act within their operational workflows and decision-making processes.
  • Develop data products, including web applications, API endpoints, and data visualizations, that deliver information and insights to business users.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver end-to-end data products that put information and insights into the hands of the business users.
  • Demonstrated ability to quantify / measure impact of actions taken based on insights.
  • Ability and willingness to quickly learn new technologies.
  • Strong adherence to core software/data engineering principles. (Code modularization and optimization, version control, etc.)
  • Expertise in SQL – RDBMS, experience in working with NOSQL DB as well.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including - Python.
  • Proficiency in using Airflow, and Git.
  • Proficiency in cloud development (GCP, and Azure) and workflow automation technologies.
  • Experience building out enterprise data warehouses, fabrics and/or platforms according to prescribed information architecture.
  • Proficiency in data wrangling and integration.
  • Preferred – proficiency in data modeling, semantic modeling and knowledge / ontology engineering.
  • Preferred – proficiency in data quality measures and understanding of data governance.
